I have about 100pcs of stainless steel AISI304 tubes of 1.67" outside diameter and inside diameter of 1" 29/64. I need to grind 1/64 the inside of the tubes in order to fit end caps. What is the best tool to achieve this?1) A bench grinder2) An electric dremel tool3) An Air-Powered GrinderThanks,Jad

Reply:Is it not possible to skim 1/64" from the end caps? otherwise you could use a carbide burr in a die grinder or maybe a course flap wheel in a die grinder or fast drill.Lincoln SP-170 MigHypertherm powermax 45Lorch T220 AC/DC TigButters FM 215 synergic MigKemppi 180 adaptive mig RULES ARE FOR THE OBEDIENCE OF FOOLS AND THE GUIDANCE OF WISE MEN.
Reply:3 jaw chuck and a boring bar in a lathe.Done in 1 hr....zap!I am not completely insane..Some parts are missing Professional Driver on a closed course....Do not attempt.Just because I'm a dumbass don't mean that you can be too.So DON'T try any of this **** l do at home.
Reply:End cap picture Tube picture @DSW, A reamer wouldn't work since I need to shave down more than this@gordon, Good advice, I am inclined for the Die Grinder with Carbide Burr.@zapster, Good advice too. I don't have the means for this though. I will explore this one as a last resort. Maybe I should find a local workshop. Any idea what is a feasible charge on grinding each tube? I have 100 of those.
Reply:What about a sanding drum on a die grinder? How deep do you need to go? 1/64 is nothing, I would probably go that route. You could even use an electric straight angle grinder, those things have some power.Have we all gone mad?
Reply:i second the ream idea. i think your thinking of a hand reamer and DSW means a reaming bit like this one http://www.mcmaster.com/#reamers/=askh3e_______________________OF COURSE I DON'T LOOK BUSY... I DID IT RIGHT THE FIRST TIME
Reply:Hey why not use a brake hone like this:http://www.amazon.com/Tools-265-Brak.../dp/B000COBUUSkidtigger24Last edited by kidtigger24; 01-28-2011 at 10:52 PM. They think Im crazy, but I know better. It is not I who am crazy. It is I who am MAD!
Reply:Are the caps a press fit? Does the tube have enough stretch to do it without splitting? It looks like the part is knurled to retain it in the tube. Maybe the part was designed to be press fit as is, knowing the nominal tube diameter was under. +1 for boring on the lathe. If I had a few to do and didn't have a lathe I might try a flap disk.
Reply:how long are the pieces of tubing?do you have access to a drill press and a v block? then ream it.. with the knurl on the cap, they might possibly be wanting that much engagment..tackleexperts.comwww.necessityjigs.comhttps://www.facebook.com/groups/mach...dingequipment/
Reply:I ended up taking the 270 caps to a local machine shop. They cost me $250 to grind them which is not bad at all. Now they do press fit nicely. Thanks everyone |
