I have this job of drilling 7/16" holes into round tubes of stainless steel 304 with diameter 1.67" of 0.102" thickness and square tubes 1.57"x1.57" of 0.079" thickness of the same material. the job is in the order of 100s.I am liking the JD notcher http://www.google.com/search?sourcei...ddd4f1c4c47812or a drill press with a nice tube vise.for drill bits I was looking at the following Rotabroach® Cuttershttp://blairequipment.com/Rotabroach...a_cutters.htmlWhat are the recommended tools, drill bits, vise...?Last edited by sandare; 02-27-2011 at 11:41 PM.
Reply:I cant comment on a type of vice or notcher, but I have extensively used rotabroach cutters from 7/16"-1" dia on thin walled SS tube with incredible results. I think the only way to do better would involve a 5 axis mill.Take care of the bits, and use a good cutting lubricant.Have we all gone mad?

Reply:I ended up buying the tube notcher and the rotabroach bits.@sn0border88 thank you for the confirmation about using the rotabroach bits. What cutting lubricant do you use? and how would use it? How much do you dilute it? Do you have a constant pump on the drill?@4sfed/Jim - makes total sense about the 436 rpm. That is the plan. does it matter the hp of the drill press? would 1/2 hp be enough or better go with 1hp since it's running at low rpm and might need good torque? My plan is to apply good pressure.
