What's a late 90's Syncrowave 351 worth?  It doesn't have any leads, and it's at auction so there is no opportunity to test it.  It may or may not work.  All the knobs and switches are on it.  What would y'all be willing to bid for it--if anything?

Reply:No more than $400, if you have to bid against somebody for it. IMHOIan TannerKawasaki KX450 and many other fine tools
Reply:Thanks, gentlemen.
Reply:Good luck with that, might as well not even go, at least around here.  Freaking unproven auction welders seem to bring almost as much (or more!) than LWS "certified" resell bare units.  I went to several when I was looking, including one place that had around 12 of them (thought with that many the pool of buyers would be tapped out before it was over), and every one of them brought bare and untested well over half as much as I paid for my loaded turn-key unit. But still, that low?  I get the "may have a bad board" issue, but from what I think I know, odds are pretty good, and my research indicates boards aren't that ridiculous (if you can find them, and a local guy repairs them).  What am I missing?  I would have thought that depending on area it would be at least $500 to $700 (depending on condition and options) or so even untried at auction as long there is no obvious damage or apparent risk.  And then there is the leads etc to replace.  But are the Sync 351s that bad a risk?
Reply:I dont think id even bid on it unless It was tested and guaranteed to not be a paper weight. Id pay $100 for it, if it works great u got a great deal. If it doesnt work then maybe its a inexpensive fix if its hopeless then I could gut it and make my money back or save it and buy another cheap broken one and hope I could peice together a working machine.HH140---------------------------https://www.facebook.com/brandon.pike.9
Reply:The older the machine is and the less options it has will make it a less risky purchase.  The older ones have less electronics and boards to break.Make sure you have the power supply for it before you buy it.  I don't have the manual in front of me, but it's gotta want a directly wired 100+ amp sub panel.  A Syncro 250 is supposed to be supplied with 80-90 amps.  Any Syncros over the 250 actually sell for less than their smaller counterparts.  The 250 is the peak price and it goes down from there on both sides. This has been my buying experience. YMMVI'd prolly go $4-500 myself if I had the space, power and need for it.Last edited by Drf255; 03-15-2014 at 06:23 AM.TA Arcmaster 300CM3XMT 304S22P12 suitcase feederX-Treme 12VSOptima pulserTA161SMaxstar 150STLHypertherm PM45OP setupStihl 020AVP, 039, 066 Magnum
Reply:Thanks for the advice.
Reply:Look at the serial number. If lower than KF780420 it might have the plastic polarity switch. They have a bad habit of melting. Miller has a replacement kit, that changes it to the blade type switch. Kit is around $1000.00 or more. If it has a control pcb that is bad, it may not be repairable.
