I've been running my s32p-12 a lot lately. It is quickly becoming my favorite machine, it is extremely versatile. I have welded 1/8 to 1/2 inch steel with the same wire. The last time I used it I hooked the vs clamp to the ground which worked well. Is this ok?ThanksFarmer2Hobart Champion EliteMiller S-32p 12Lincoln sp175tLincoln 225 ac tombstoneHarris oxy/aceteleneMakita grinders/chopsawHypertherm Powermax 45
Reply:Yes that is fine and a lot of guys do that to insure they get a good contact for the VS lead..No government ever voluntarily reduces itself in size. Reply:Those are tough units, have two of them that some one was going to through in the trash. They looked nasty and smelled like rats, cleaned them up and they worked great. One of them the contactor was broken, from the two put together a contactor and the gas solenoid . The other one, motor had been cut out. Soldered wires to motor, bought a used contactor and a new gas solenoid . Looks like the main problem is the contactor, they have no shielding on contacts and grinding dust gets in contacts. They lack shielding on contactor and do not have a purge button, but are tough units.

Reply:You did very good. I like mine, but don't get to use it often, as I lack a power source to run it regularly..No government ever voluntarily reduces itself in size. Reply:I take them to work as they make my job easy. At work we have a Hobart Champion 16 with CV and at home I have a Trailblazer 301G. Mostly run .035 Lincoln NR211 for galvanized pipe fence and .035 Pinnacle Alloys E71T-GS for galvanized irrigation fittings. All run in CV mode, but have run it from a Miller Thunderbolt in CC mode. When I get the Lincoln Short Hood fixed up would to run it in CC mode with NR211.

Reply:CEP, Statement it has been three years since I got the short hood. Got motor unstuck, then found a bare wire in Mag(Eisemann) that was grounding out. Oil pan was half full of sludge. Got it started and cyl head was cracked. Replaced head and rings were stuck in #1 cyl , rebuilt carb , got another governor and needs a valve job. She welds good, but with two kids in College it has been slow going on the short hood. So next is doing a DIY valve job. The engine rebuilding shop offered me a fresh rebuilt F-163 for $600.00 should have taken the offer, Oh well. I am in no rush. I am not the only one with slow Short hood projects.
Reply:See I didn't understand if you were asking is it possible to run a VS-feeder off your short hood or not. That is where I was confused. Personally I think you will be floored at the arc of a pure DC generator with NR-211, NR-212, or even Hobart's Fab Shield 21-B. Until around the mid 1980's all we had on heavy civil construction sites were CC engine drives to run wire. I think you will be very pleased with your short hood when you work all the bugs out.Dont pay any attention to meIm just a hobbyist!CarlDynasty 300V350-Pro w/pulseSG Spool gun1937 IdealArc-300PowerArc 200ST3 SA-200sVantage 400
Reply:Here are a couple horizontal and vertical welds that I did this weekend (1/2 to 3/8). I'm also including an old weld I did on 1/8 steel to show the wire/welder range. All 5 welds were done with my miller s-32p 12 and .035 hobart flux core wire on my cc hobart champion elite welder/generator.Hobart Champion EliteMiller S-32p 12Lincoln sp175tLincoln 225 ac tombstoneHarris oxy/aceteleneMakita grinders/chopsawHypertherm Powermax 45
