This is my first big project to take on. I am trying to mimick the big executive blinds that cost around $4k, like this one:The plans:

Reply:I like it
Reply:Looks like it's coming along nicely. I personally don't see how sitting in one of those and waiting for a deer to walk into range can be considered hunting. When I go hunting I like to be out in the woods actually hunting and tracking the animal. But to each his own.

Reply:how much in materials, that thing will last forever with the right finish.
Reply:Very nice stand. How high are the windows? Are they 12 inches wide?
Reply:Should be about $700 in materials, the outside is going to be 14 gauge sheet (getting a deal on it or else I would go thinner.) I will insulate the inside with some tyvek, and I have some sliding windows lined up to have made. The front and sides will be 36"x11.5" windows, and the rear will be 24"x11.5".I'm still brainstorming on how to make the door weatherproof, suggestions are welcome.
Reply:I know you already have your windows framed, but the best window and cheapest is from an old school bus. Just flip them over so the window slides up and they work great. For the door I know several people who used storm doors and take the screens out so they can shoot from the door.
Reply:This is fantastic! I am working on my own as well. Mine has a steel frame and will have 1/2" plywood walls/floors. I'll get some pictures soon on a new thread.Mine will sit 11 feet high, winched and bolted to a tree. It's 4'x6' by 5' tall. I'm really excited to get to peruse your build for ideas for my project as all I've completed is the frame, ladder and painting of same. Next is the wood, windows, maybe a solution for a restroom/trapdoor or funnel and hose?

Reply:We have a company near me that makes corrogated plastic sheeting, It looks like plastic cardboard and is fairly tough stuff, they always run a few loads of camo stuff out in the fall. We have several stands like yours up but wood framed and sheeted with this plastic. I think a 4x8 sheet is going for around $8

Reply:ironmangq, what is the name of the company that makes the corrugated plastic sheeting. Would like to get some for a project.
Reply:Looks niceHunting in Texas seems so different than in the East. I would love to hnt coyotes in Texas. I hunt them in Ohio as well .Dave ReberWadsworth Ohio

Reply:I hope you would enjoy hunting after you get this ready
Reply:That hollow core plastic eventually fades in the sunlight. Just an FYI. But I guess you could sell it as changing from woodland camo to desert camo
Reply:Do you have Directv and heat in there too?! I wouldn't have to cuss sitting on the shady side of the mountain watching the sun creep down the other side warming things up while i freeze my *** off! I guess you could probably fit a lazy-boy recliner in there too!

Reply:It's being welded with a Hobart 135 mig with 75/25 Argon, set on 2/25. I'm still on my first 10 lb spool of wire ever, starting to get pretty comfortable with it!Originally Posted by Slumpbuster36It's being welded with a Hobart 135 mig with 75/25 Argon, set on 2/25. Reply:You were right, my settings were a little cold. Bumped it up to 3/20 and it seems to be penetrating much better. Finally got the sheet metal in, it's gonna be one hoss of a blind...14 gauge sheet! Got the floor and door fabbed up this evenin:

Reply:It will be painted Olive Drab and black, the inside will be carpeted everywhere except the ceiling.

Reply:Thanks, I'll look into that!Turns out this one is already sold, and I am going to be getting a deposit next week for 8 more!
Reply:Ok more progress this week. Got all 4 sides welded up, they don't fit perfectly flush on the corners but I'm going to hit em with the grinder then add some thing gauge angle on all the corners to clean it up.I want a plasma cutter terribly! Im over this whole cutting wheel thing...
Reply:Haven't updated my progress in a while, this is what I have done:I got some galvanized sheet angle and tacked it to the corners just to clean them up.Also started on the tower
Reply:Tacked up the stairsGot them all welded up...these suckers are heavyAny input on whether I should do some X bracing on the legs? It is pretty damn sturdy as it sits, but I'm thinking I ought to throw some on there just in case.
Reply:You've already added some steady platform at the bottom portion of the legs with a square brace. As you already know, nothing really beats x bracing in the world of geometry. I don't think you'll be moving this heavy stand by yourself. From the looks of it, a one man operation wont be able to maneuver this thing out in the field due to its weight. Since its already pretty heavy, requiring several adults to maneuver it when it's finished, you might as well add x bracing or at least some gussets joining the legs at the top to the stand floor. With two or more adults in the stand moving around, you don't want those leg joints taking all the stress on those welds alone. You asked. I "live" in deer stands. I gave my opinion. Reply:That's what I figured, it will be nothing for me to add x bracing to the long sides and maybe just z brace the front and rear.

Reply:Final weight will be around 800 lbs or so. I would have gone wayyyy lighter, but I got the 14g sheet for a total of $120, so I'm making it work!
Reply:where are you going to set up? alongside a corn field or into the woods a bit?Of all the things I lost I miss my mind the most...I know just enough about everything to be dangerous......You cant cure stupid..only kill it...
Reply:This blind is already sold to a buddy of mine, it will be in a mesquite pasture out in west Texas. Huge deer out that way, here's one who walked last year:Stand is all done and headed to its home tomorrow morning. I added expanded metal to the steps for traction. With it being so windy today, I didn't want to spray paint half the neighborhood. So instead, I got my woman and took it to the elementary school parking lot to paint and be far away from any vehicles or houses...We only got this far before the liaison officer suggested we move along...
Reply:Been a long time since I updated, here goes.Got all of the outside trim welded on to the top and sides, caulked and primered.Insulation on the inside is done minis the door, I ran out of pieces for above the windows so I said screw it I'll just carpet to the ceiling. Also got the corner shelves in.
Reply:Eureka!!! The carpet didn't come out as well as I had hoped, I think on the next go round I will axe the insulation and pre-glue the carpet to the sheet metal. I also think next time I will use a pre-fabbed door, this one isn't going to seal extremely well. Either way it's DONE, loading it up tonight and it will be on the way to it's owner tomorrow morning.
Reply:Maybe instead of carpet try using 1/4" plywood. Up here in Wis we use spray foam insulation and cover it with 1/4" plywood, and use carpet on the ceilings and floors to keep noise down.
Reply:looks great, cant imagine doing all of that cutting with a cut off wheel. I second using some plywood or birch for the walls next time.
Reply:amish folks up the road build a nice large deer blind for like $700.. your blind build looks good..tackleexperts.comwww.necessityjigs.comhttps://www.facebook.com/groups/mach...dingequipment/
