Do these wires work in non lincoln machines? I see they recommend a kit for the innershield wire, with the 175hd, but it comes with the wire 'ready to use', sans the 'kit'.Also is this lincoln wire 'special' in that it allows the welder to exceed the 'standard' thickness the welder can do, or does that happen with all flux core wires? I've only seen other welders show one max thickness not one with a flux wire and one using active gas.

Reply:Sure, Lincoln wire can be used in a non-Lincoln machine.Just like non-Lincoln wire can be used in a Lincoln machine.Each type of wire may have slightly different results and may be recommended for slightly different end-uses and may not be made or available in all sizes. The smallest listed NR-212 diameter I see listed in the catalog is 0.045 inch.One important thing to check for is the drive roller groove size and the liner hole size and the tip size are all matching or compatible with the wire diameter. You can run usually 0.025 dia wire through an 0.035 liner if you have the 0.025/0.030 drive roller and importantly the 0.025 contact tip.But you can't squeeze 0.045 wire through an 0.035 liner or tip or use an 0.035 drive roller. The Lincoln "0.045 Innershield Kit" for the 175-class machine usually is an 0.045 dia liner, some 0.045 dia contact tips, and an 0.035/0.045 knurled drive roller, and an FCAW nozzle (?, don't know if the nozzle is part of the kit or not).Feeding 0.035 flux-core wire usually works just fine with the stock 0.035 liner. Set the drive roller to the 0.030/0.035 groove and put an 0.035 tip in and weld away!Last edited by MoonRise; 07-25-2007 at 06:27 PM.
