What is the C.E. of type 8615 steel with 0.15 C, 0.90 Mn, 0.50CR, 0.40Ni, 0.25Mo, and 0.20 Cu?A 0.35b 0.40c 0.42d 0.37Im confused, ive tried googling what the CE is of 8615 and it just breaks it down. Any advice or where to find the answer would be great and appreciated.I have the WIT book and every other book i could get off line. Thanks!brian
Reply:Ceq ~= 0.35.  My math yields 0.33999.  Choice 'A' is your answer.  You do not need to Google the Ceq.  You should calculate the carbon equivalent.  You know the formula??  The IIW Ceq formula is listed in Sec. 3.3-3 of the Procedure Handbook.  You should be able to find the formula also online."Discovery is to see what everybody else has seen, and to think what nobody else has thought" - Albert Szent-Gyorgyi

Reply:I get 0.49 , and I am using the IIW formula. There are different formulas though, to calculate the Ceq.The CEN formula gives 0.44The AWS formula gives 0.49
