So, my wife would like me to build her a pedestal for the washer and dryer. It probably needs to be around 14" high. I was thinking about using 2" tube to make six legs and maybe 1.5" for the top frame. I will likely make a floor out of plywood covered with carpet remnants or something. She would like to be able to slide laundry baskets under the pedestal. So my question is about bracing. I know it's going to be fairly heavy when full of water. I'm hoping I can do straight tube between the legs on the short side and gussets in the long side corners. I really don't want to do any gussets on the front long side if possible so she can take advantage of sliding in the baskets. Think it will be ok? Am I way over thinking or way under thinking this?Dimensions would be 60"x35" with 6 legs at (14"-plywood height)I thought I would do 4 rails for the 35" side (2 outside and 2 inside)Appreciate any feedback.
Reply:Don't waste your time and money. You are much better served putting a counter top above them and have some actual useful space, add some cabinets or shelves above that and then you really have something. Those pedestals turn into rattle traps over time, and don't really fit much into them.
Reply:The advantage to the pedestal in my wife's opinion isn't the storage, but the more comfortable height. Sliding in laundry baskets is a bonus.
Reply:Is this a frontloader setup? Keep in mind the 300+ lbs of concrete weights in the washer, factor in to your construction. |
