In preparation for a few AWS tests slated for this summer, fab'd a simple welding test rig to integrate to my 3' x 4' x 1/2" slotted welding table. The rig's core members consist of a vintage cast steel C-clamp, 1-1/4" sch 40 pipe, 1020 1-3/8" x .095 DOM tubing, 1" square and 1/2" round A36 bar, and 1018 3/8" CRS plate. The requirement. Build a flexible, moveable fixture to support all position welding on plate and pipe/tubing (1-1/2" - 2-1/2") with platens. Used axial spray MIG, TIG, FCAW-G, and SMAW for the work. All materials were on-hand from past builds and/or training. $ nada, zilch, no bill. Time to burn...... Reply:Continued. For pipe, the 3/8" CRS pipe jig accomodates the future installation of purge ports for internal gas shielding.
