Question About Welding Tables!!!

My current welding table is 24" X 48"top is 3/8" thick. The frame is built on 2" X 2" 14 gauge tube. I would like to add a top that is 1/2" thick......36" X 96". My question is with the new top there will be overhang. will this be too much overhang? This will be a setup table.........all heavy finish welding will be done on a different table!

Reply:I'd go w/ that.    I like it framed flush w/ outside.   It'll be fine for tacking and more, but, I like to at least feel like I'm opening  the c clamp up on something.    I got a table like your' that's built on to thin of framing  for top plate.   I tacked some 2"x.250 flat bar to under side of frame to disperse the pressure.   It helped a lot for a cheap aqdditive
Reply:I only have 2" in front of me on my table and WISH it was 4 or 5...The angle gets in the way of c-clamps ALL THE TIME!!!!!...zap!I am not completely insane..Some parts are missing Professional Driver on a closed course....Do not attempt.Just because I'm a  dumbass don't mean that you can be too.So DON'T try any of this **** l do at home.
Reply:Really depends on how heavy the stuff you build is?  For light weight work I don't think 2" is too much.
Reply:I would be afraid of clamping something and pulling that extra overhang. I did not believe at first how much pressure clamps will put out and pull a nice table into a potato chip.TOO MANY TOOLS & NO MORE SPACE
