Please forgive my newbie ignorance - BUT, would pre &/or post-flow shielding gas be of any benefit for MIG welding? I'm converting my trusty old Lincoln 155 Weld Pak from flux-core wire to "regular" wire with shielding gas and have the opportunity to add either of those strategies with adjustable "delay-on-make" &/or "delay-on-break" relays in series with the gas solenoid. The relays are inexpensive, easy to wire and widely available on eBay (EXAMPLE 1.....EXAMPLE 2). If I decide to use 'em, I'll probably install the relay sockets in the "wire compartment", so the relays' time adjustments are readily accessible. Sooooo........whaddaya think? Is this a worthwhile addition, or am I just spinning my wheels?   TIA!Last edited by TurboRay; 08-04-2015 at 02:13 PM.2015 AHP 200X TIG (Just received "re-ordered" unit on 8/26 after UPS  lost the first one)Lincoln 155 Weld Pak MIG(Old) Marquette O/A Set(Old) Miller 225 "Thunderbolt" Stick (for sale)
Reply:I've never seen either used for MIG.
Reply:Hello TurboRay, generally wire feed welders don't require/have these options, HOWEVER, they can be beneficial and are used for some types of wire feeding challenges. When aluminum is being welded having a pre-flow capability can assist with contamination issues on start-up. Post-flow can be beneficial when you are welding on alloys that are susceptible to remaining reactive (sensitive to oxidation due to temperature) after welding has ceased and the crater area is still above the reactive temperature. So you can make your decisions somewhat from there. Good luck and best regards, Allanaevald
Reply:You'll just be wasting gas setting up a pre/Post flow system for the Weldpak 155   Just connect a simple gas solenoid and weld on brotha.Ed Conleyhttp://www.screamingbroccoli.com/MM252MM211 (Sold)Passport Plus & Spool gunLincoln SP135 Plus- (Gone to a good home)Klutch 120v Plasma cutterSO 2020 benderBeer in the fridge
Reply:THANX for the replies, guys!  I guess I'll abandon the idea for now, since I'll just be using this welder for mild steel. Besides, I can always add it later if I feel the need. 2015 AHP 200X TIG (Just received "re-ordered" unit on 8/26 after UPS  lost the first one)Lincoln 155 Weld Pak MIG(Old) Marquette O/A Set(Old) Miller 225 "Thunderbolt" Stick (for sale)
