Reply:Something seems off with that add. The guy seems to know what he's got, but the price seems too low. I'm wondering if these were exposed to a fire and are junk. I can't tell from the pict if the cyl has been brushed/ sand blasted or if it's just painted silver. His offer to sell cyl without valves seems strange also. If they were good cyl, I can't see why they wouldn't spend the extra few bucks and get new valves installed and charge say $75-100 each or them. My 1st thought is that the valve place would spot a fire damaged cyl straight off and condem them rather than revalve them. It's very unusual to find a cyl with no valve. One with an odd valve for clorine or some other cemical yes, but valveless cyl are unusual. Also 2015 psi rated cyl are old. Most today are 2265psi or 2400 usually. There are some old Walter Kidde alum cly from the 70's that had serious alloy issues. These were originally mostly CO2 cyl for fire suppression. I believe all these will be condemed on next hydro per new DOT specs. I believe these would all be "E" series cyl. as opposed to the newer alum cyl that are stamped "3AL". Thats another thing to be cautious about. Anyone who's interested just be careful you might end up with a $50 hunk of alum scrap.Last edited by DSW; 09-01-2010 at 11:50 PM..No government ever voluntarily reduces itself in size. Reply:He says they're DOT 3AA. That's a chrome-moly tank. Steel, not aluminum.Maybe a typo, but not much about that ad sounds right.

Reply:I believe he had these posted on either the Sioux Falls or South Dakota cl last week. It sounds tempting but I have learned to stay away from most of my temptations. |
