What happens when you go to an auction with too much spare cash? You end up buying a Lincoln R3R-400 DC Stick Welder. Now the all important question. It's a 460/230 3 phase unit. Any chance it can be converted to 220 single phase? Somebody on ebay claims to know how to do it in 10 minutes and for $25 he will send you instructions on how to do it. Anybody know something about this machine? Is it worth investing in or should I sell it for the copper? I already have a mig, but wanted to add a stick to the shop as well, but this is way overkill for my home fab shop. Before somebody mentions it, I am a boat owner and no I don't need a 400lb anchor. Your comments are appreciated.
Reply:Numbers look good; http://content.lincolnelectric.com/p...ture/e2100.pdfAs for single phase I don't know ? Hey experts...will a phase converter work for a CC welder ?Anything worth doing is worth doing RIGHT
Reply:not well...And on that will do the job will be more $$$ than a new welder.Me!
Reply:Put it up for sale or trade for a single phase unit. I have run one before, and I really liked it. I'm sure someone would be interested in a unit like that.I'm a Lover, Fighter, Wild horse Rider, and a pretty good welding man......

Reply:You might want to check, but I think the main coils are aluminum in the R3R. The 400, however, is valuable on the used market. Even with copper as high as it is now, scrap might not be your answer. We would be happy to swap single phase stick machines for R3R400 as would several other folks around the country, assuming freight is not prohibitive. weldersales |
