OK, since I want to run 6010...

...and I have this big Thermal Arc Predator that doesn't do it very well, I'm looking for options.  The first question is if the 220 v. output from the Predator would be clean enough to run an inverter welder? It has the power at 8500 amps to run an Everlast Powerarc 200 or a similarly powerful machine.  Next option I suppose would be to sell the Predator and buy some other engine-driven welder, like maybe a Bobcat or something?  I don't have a 220 outlet at my house, and I don't really want to install one considering the cost of electricity here in SoCal.
Reply:I'd install the 220.  That way you can run just about any machine you want.  You are going to pay for fuel for an engine driven welder or pay for electricity for 220, your choice...can't have yer cake and eat it too.  (220 in your shop runs a lot quieter than an engine driven)BTW, not all inverters will run 6010, check out the threads here on the forum for info and there is some difference of opinion on whether they have to use "clean" power or can be run off of any generator.

Reply:not familiar w/ any of those machines.   i think you mean watts when you said 8500.    i dont think being an inverter is that much of a factor.   i gotta a 8000 watt home depot special, i run my mill cst280 off it w/ 1/8 6010 for gas pipe on roofs.    the dirty power of what i got, makes very, very, little compromising of the arc in stick welding, but is horrible for rrunning innershield on mini migs.    to give you an idea, the so called 8000 watts that i got is maxes for about 105 110 amps output of my cst
