need to buy a new batt. for my winch. its a 8500 lds winchdoes cranking amp matter for a winch
Reply:Minimum: 650  CCA
Reply:what is your setup..? is it mounted on a trailer..?
Reply:Ive had great luck with the Interstate Megatrons. Hold up real well and have a lot of cranking power. The more CCA's you have the better the battery can respond to the load of the winch. Too little and it cant supply enough current to make the most power. I would get the biggest battery you can fit and afford. I think the Megatrons in my Jeep running an 8000lb winch are right around 1000CCA EACH and I can hear the winch pick up when I switch over to dual battery power from a single battery. (I built a dual charging system with isolated batteries between the winch and the rest of the vehicle so it would be nearly impossible for me to get stranded with a dead battery, it has saved me several times now)
Reply:If this is for a trailer I'm listening, as I have been thinking of adding a winch to my trailer for quite a while now.
Reply:If its going on a trailer, get the biggest 12volt battery you can get that is rated to supply cranking output (a normal deep cycle wont cut it) Look for at least 650CCA as mentioned above as your winch can probably draw at least 4-500amps at full capacity. In the case of winches bigger is almost always better
Reply:first  dont go with a deep cycle batt. ???2nd it for a trailer and more Attached Images
Reply:A regular deep cycle battery is made to sustain a constant draw for a long period of time, It is not designed or capable of supplying the necessary current to run your winch properly, It will run it but it will not have anywhere near its capacity. Your winch will draw more than 300 amps at full pull which is similar to a truck starter cranking, Try to start your truck with your trolling motor battery and youll see what I mean.A deep cycle starting battery may be what you need, It can handle the amperage and not being charged constantly. Optima Yellow Top D27F would work great on your trailer and last a while, With the rear mount just make sure your alternator is good and get a good battery in there, Make sure your wiring to the winch is big enough to not melt on a long pull (the 4ga stock stuff might be a little small for that long of a run to the back bumper)
