solder sprayer

Hi,I have a vintage solder spray gun that I recently aquired.Are there any old time lead guys on the forum that can tell me what metal prep is needed before spraying.Also anything else that I should know {Like DON"T BREATH THE FUMES!! DUMMY!!} I would like to try using it just for the fun of it.The last time I saw one of these was when I was a teenager working in a local body shop over fifty years ago! I probably would sell it after I fool around with it for a while {and don't kill myself in the process!!]}
