Hi guys. I'm a newly appointed Welding Engineer in a small company and I am the only engineer currently so I need you guys' help. In a drawing from our most recent project, the connection instructions include, and I quote directly, "Weld =8 FW/440". I was working at an inspection company before so I don't really understand what it means. Any help will be much appreciated. Last edited by ShafiqWE; 08-26-2015 at 09:09 PM.

Reply:Thanks for the response Timmy. Ye I figured it was 8mm Fillet Weld. But the /440 I have no idea what that means. Here's other parts that also says the same thing.
Reply:I've worked with welding symbols at many jobs and never saw anything like that before. All I can think of is ask for their welding spec as it may help you decipher it.ChrisAuction Addict
Reply:8mm weld as TT said, it looks as if the 440 and 100 have to do with the length of the weld....somewhere....Mike
Reply:Weld =8 FW/440........would think that the 440 part is short for 440n/mm2 and refers to yield strength and rod selection. This Lincoln page for 6010 shows the 440n/mm2 notation near the bottom. Attached ImagesLast edited by OldSparks; 08-27-2015 at 10:39 AM.
Reply:@ OldSparks - concur. Seen similar notation in DNV classification for welding offshore structures."Discovery is to see what everybody else has seen, and to think what nobody else has thought" - Albert Szent-Gyorgyi
Reply:Thanks so much for the replies @milo, mike and oldspark. I will call them and see if I can figure this thing out. Cheers guys! |
