I bought a Lincoln Viking 3550 helmet from my LWS about a year or so ago. I wanted to upgrade from my fixed lens helmet and he highly recommended the 3550. The price seemed reasonable. So, with no research whatsoever, I bought one. I used it a few times and was satisfied, but was having trouble seeing what I was doing very clearly. I read a little online and was pleased to see all of the positive reviews this helmet had received. I started using cheater glasses and my satisfaction improved. Overall, however, I knew I still needed to practice watching the puddle as I welded. Reel ahead to last week when I took the lens out of the helmet to clean the front plastic shield. As I replaced it in the helmet, I noticed....the translucent green plastic film over the inside of the lens unit. Blink, blink. Needless to say, I now see the puddle very clearly and am really enjoying such a fine welding helmet. Having used it both ways as, say, an experiment, I would recommend removing all of the plastic protective film before putting it into use!

Reply:My wife refused to remove the protective plastic film from her new Android phone. She didn't want her new phone to get scratched up. Of course the film scratches easily but phone screens these days are bomb proof. By the time she finally removed it she could hardly read the phone while in sunlight or under bright lights.Century buzzbox that I learned on 40+ years ago (was Dad's)Crappy Century 110volt mig 70 amp pigeon pooper.Lincoln Idealarc TIG-300

Reply:i remember cutting a bunch of steel up 111", when it was supposed to be 11'-1" (but written 11 1"). . ... . . .my boss had a sign above his computer that read something like,"better to ask a dumb question than make a stupid mistake". . . . . .that day was the FIRST time i saw that sign lololol.just recently, on a hospital, and after hearing "simple, just make the tubing hit the holes, and weld to the beam!" i had a bunch of steel cut and holes drilled before i looked closer at the "prints" (rough sketch) showing a 6" core through the deck and the holes catching "cross-beams" so that the mains would miss the holes. . . . . .. me, head down, "ummmm, well, not sure how i missed it, but. . .
