..Anybody own or know anything about these.? Wanna get a proper metal cutting miter and I've been reading up on it today. Just curious how they do in reality and what other options may be out there.   Thanks for any useful input..   d:^)  Schneeks..ESAB 161 LTSCommunicate & adapt, diggit.?ΜΟΛΩΝ ΛΑΒΕ
Reply:They have indeed been discussed here, if you run a search, they should turn up. I am a fan of Milwaukee tools, and opted for their version, which is hands down more accurate than any abrasive chopsaw, and easier than a bandsaw for most of what I will ever need. http://www.milwaukeetool.com/tools/t...achine/6190-20City of L.A. Reply:id stay with the  Milwaukee if all you are looking for are basic miters but. I did see an evolution brand compound miter once that looked pretty cool you had to clamp the metel on both sides. i looked a little too fragile to me so i never got one
Reply:Tangle- I like Milwaukee myself and would go with them if they had something similar. But I didn't see where they had a metal cutting miter with bevel capabilities.   I did, however, order one of their metal cutting circ saws and it's en route right now. Lookin forward to a little fun with that thing.!! Bravo- I've read mixed reports on the Evo's. But mostly they've been positive. It's hard to tell what kindof info yer gettin from general review sites. But after discussing it with a few folks who I think may have their chit together, it's a go unless I can find other viable options. ..Thanks fella, and any further input is appreciated..   d:^)  Schneeks..ESAB 161 LTSCommunicate & adapt, diggit.?ΜΟΛΩΝ ΛΑΒΕ
Reply:This is the one I want.http://cgi.ebay.com/Evolution-Rage3-...item5640d7813aMuch more versatile than a chop saw. I've got a 9" Evolution skil type saw that absolutely kicks a$$ so I would get this thing in a heart beat.I will when funds allow me to do so.
Reply:Never read a bad review about the Evo Rage saws.I ordered a Rage 3 this morning, actually.I figured since I just bought a house, I can use it for everything.  Wood, metal, plastic, tile, stone, whatever.  I figure once I get back on my feet I can buy a larger dedicated chop saw, the 14" Rage one actually.  Until then the Rage 3 should get me through a lot of what I deal with.I paid $250.
Reply:ive run a pile of the metal cutting saws on conveyor jobs and hands down the handiest saw i've ever used was an evolution 10 or 12 in hand held circular saw. and believe it or not the only one to ever break was a  Milwaukee . all that said i am the aproud owner of a 8in  Milwaukee saw. evolution is a good brand i just seem to like red  tools better.. for those of you how have never run a metal cutting carbide saw, you are missing out. it sure beats the hell out of the taste of carbonendum in your mouth all day
Reply:Steve- Yeah, I've been running carbide tipped blades on the current miter and circ saws for the 'loominum. Just watchin the speed-n-feed to try and make it a decent cut. I've got a few little steel project coming up that'll require angle cuts so I'm lookin for somethin to handle that as well. Plus it another excuse to get more tools. Might better get my "care package" ready before I go broke.   (I really do need a few things now)Thanks for the input fellas. The Rage 3 compound is in a foot race with the Milwaukee to get here now.. Fun's on the way..    d:^)  Schneeks..ESAB 161 LTSCommunicate & adapt, diggit.?ΜΟΛΩΝ ΛΑΒΕ
Reply:schneeky, I have the milwaukee 14" dry cut & the rage 3, here is my 2 cents. I use the milwaukee less & less & have actually thrown it on the truck since i got my rage3. I have made a saw bench with 10ft wings left & right of the saw with a fence set up which is great for rep cuts. both saws cut great & leave a pretty good edge to work with, the mil seems a bit beefier & doesnt mind big square tube or pipe the rage will do it but seems to struggle a bit. I like the versatility of it combined with the bench as i could use it for other projects too, wood, pvcpipe, etc                                                                             Bob Attached Images
Reply:RD- Thanks.. But dayum, now I got a severe case of shop envy goin.!! Nice setup.   Since I'm schtuck inna 10'x12' shop for now, I've been looking at some of the folding miter stands for long stock so I can set it up outside when needed. Anyone used those.? Comments.?  Thanx.!!     d:^)   Schneeks..ESAB 161 LTSCommunicate & adapt, diggit.?ΜΟΛΩΝ ΛΑΒΕ
Reply:ive got one of these with my sliding miter saw on not to bad of course it was only 50 when i bought it http://www.harborfreight.com/mobile-...and-40612.html350P 30A spool gun cut master 51  syncro 250 other stuff " take a dog off the street and make him prosper and he will not bite you sad the same cannot be said for man" i didnt use punctuation just to piss you off
Reply:I have a Delta version of the folding miter saw table converted to a welding table.  It works well for me.  I was worried about stability but it hasn't been an issue.  Picked it up at a garage sale for $20.
Reply:I got one of thoses.  Its a handy little toy.  I take it to jobs when we have to fab something onsite inside a building.  I used it in the shop alot to do miter cuts in alum.  All the steel miter cuts get shoved in my geka's ironworker shear or angle crop.  Sinces its a whole lot faster on steel.Lincoln 300 Vantage 2008300 Commander 1999SA250 1999SA200 1968Miller Syncrowave 200XMT350MPA/S-52E/xr-15Xtreme 12vs Millermatic 251 w/30A  Millermatic 251 Dialarc 250 Hypertherm 1250 GEKA & Bantom Ironwokers
Reply:Cold cut saws work well on mild steel and aluminum with the correct blade. But I would not recommend getting one to be your only saw. They can't cut stainless or cast iron for very long before dulling the blade. The evolution blades suck. Tenryu blades are much better. I have a Milwaukee and it's okay, but if I had it to do over, I'd get the 12" Makita. The 12" blade is more stable and accurate, but, obviously, cut capacity is smaller. I like the mostly flat surface of the milwaukee, my old abrasive saw (the older milwaukee) had raised bars that had been milled to support the material and align it, but they were useless for trimming small or irregular peices. I would prefer to sweep the dust off a perfectly flat surface every time I cut then to have to try work around a crooked cut.I also have the makita 7.25" hand held saw and it works great, my only complaint there is that the blade is on the wrong side for right handers, I would expect other brands of hand held saws to have similar performance.Ian TannerKawasaki KX450 and many other fine tools
Reply:I have the rage evolution...hand saw is great..
Reply:I love my Evo, I have also used my 18v Makita cordless with 6 1/2" freud carbide blades for cutting steel and aluminum.  works in a pinch.Tiger Sales:  AHP Distributor    www.tigersalesco.comAHP200x; AHP 160ST; MM350P,  Spoolmatic 30A; Everlast PowerTig 185; Thermal Dynamics 60i plasma.  For Sale:  Cobra Mig 250 w/ Push-pull gun.  Lincoln Wirematic 250
