Evolution 7 1/4" Circular Saw

I have an Evolution 180 Xtreme 7 1/4" circular steel saw (very similar to the Evolution Steel Saw 1).  I have some 1/2" thick mild steel bar stock that is 6" wide that I would like to cut.  This saw is only rated for 1/4" thick steel.  Do you guys think this saw will cut it?  If not, I have a 14" abrasive chop saw that I can use.  But, it would probably take forever to cut it.
Reply:No it won't, and you are going to kill the blade at best, the motor at worst. Simply it's nor made for that job... 1/4 of inch is the very max for this saw.
Reply:Clamp it down well and go slow.  There was a guy on here who used a Freud Diablo blade to cut 3/4" plate for a welding table.  The blade was only rated for 1/8".Jack OlsenMy garage website
