I asked at my two local welding stores, and the only way that they will sell 1100 welding rod is if I bought 10 pounds. Aside from whether I want to lay out $80 for welding rod, I just don't weld aluminum very often. All in all, it seems a bit crazy for me to buy 10 pounds of 1100 TIG rod. (1100 alloy is more or less pure aluminum).I looked on the internet, and did not find any source for smaller quantities. One of the dealers said that there was only one supplier for 1100 rod, and that is how they package the 1100 rod. Apparently the 1100 rod is not very popular.Do I really need 1100 rod? That is a different question. I tend to work in 3003 sheet metal about 0.043 inches (1mm) thick, and the 1100 is more ductile, to resist cracking. My metalurgist suggested the 1100 when I was having trouble with weld cracking.
