I just got a die grinder and I am looking for a place online to get good bits. Im used to my angle grinder going through cutting wheels like crazy so I am assuming that this will do the same. So where do you guys shop for them?
Reply:I use carbide bits a lot and they last a long time if not abused. I've gotten them from a number of different places, but got a bunch a few years ago when ENCO had them on sale. Always need both single- and double-cut in various diameters and shapes; never have enough, you know...Long ago I got a bunch of Dental Drill bits, mostly carbide, which I use in my Dremel still. They had a smaller diameter than the normal Dremel bits ( 1/8" ) so used a smaller collet; ENCO and some companies are now carrying those too, in the Dremel section, of course. These bits would be a bit small for most use in a standard die grinder but occasionally for very fine work are indispensable to me. The other accessories my die grinder uses are 'small' cut-off discs and sanding drums; just be sure the speed rating is correct for your tool.
Reply:Hey HakBot,Here's the E-Bay sellers I got mine from. They work great & no problem grinding any metal with so far, even hard welds. They do a really nice job on aluminum & brass. I got a set for my brother when he saw mine as he does a lot of grinding on the race engines he builds. I have (2) sets with shafts of 1/4" for the larger die grinders & 1/8" for the Dremel & HF pencil air grinder. Here's the listing of them & a pic of the HF pencil grinder.....very handy & inexpensive.Dennyhttp://cgi.ebay.com/GRIP-8-pc-Double...item2eae72fd3chttp://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...STRK:MEBIDX:IT Attached ImagesComplete Welding/Machine/Fab. Reply:Don't grind slag with your bits and they last a long time. I talked work into buying me an 8 piece set from McMaster for 120ish. It will last a long time and as long as I am smart enough to replace the bits as they wear out I will never have to ask them to drop that chunk of change again.
Reply:Using the ones designed for steel on aluminum will clog them up quick, especially the double cuts. Reply:Thanks for the tips guys!
Reply:Hakbot:A bit closer to home for you. Epstien's downtown has a good assortment of carbide burrs http://store.harryepstein.com/And you can have burrs resharpened as well. http://www.boggstool.com/index.htm I have sheet metal files resharpened. I also buy up old files and burrs at swap shops whenever I find good name brand ones and have them resharpened. They cut as good or better than new ones.RogerOld, Tired, and GRUMPYSalesman will call, Batteries not included, Assembly is required, and FREE ADVICE IS WORTH EXACTLY WHAT YOU PAY FOR IT!Dial Arc 250HFThunderbolt 225 AC/DCAssorted A/O torches
Reply:Get a stick of wax and hit the burr with it while your working, they will last much longer, and keep them from loading up.Disclaimer; "I am just an a$$hole welder, don't take it personally ."
Reply:just keep one thing in mind when you buy them make sure you have a good face shield those burs go all over and they are easy to get in your eyes and its no fun to get them out....After the arc has died the weld remains
Reply:The best deal I have found is MAC tools they have lifetime warranty on carbides but might try Clark tool I have a set from there as well
Reply:This place has a good selection at great prices. Excellent tool store. Most made in the U.S.A.http://store.harryepstein.com/?wwwtransition=1
Reply:Epsteins is a great store , i enjoy the aisles and aisles of random stuff but like i said u might look into mac tools i bought my die grinder 90 degree air with a 4 piece set of carbides for 120 bucks two years ago and have warrantied the bits a few times , it was well worth the money spent . I have found for the most part what ruins them is running full speed and hitting steel , i usually turn the air down way down so the grinder isnt running full speed it seems to help out alot
Reply:I know its been a while but I finally got around to going to that store (Epstein). I think I could spend an entire day in there!
