I am currently running a 305G and was looking at the LN-15 as opposed to the LN-25. I understand that the 15 has wire coil size limitations, but, other than that? I was looking at the control cable model being that the 305G has an internal contactor and it will allow me to control voltage remote as well. Please chime in with any knowledge....KennyYeah, yeah, I know you are a weldor too. But, are you a good one?
Reply:I have a Ranger 250....Similar to the 305G. I use an LN-25 quite a bit. IF you get the model that works with the welder voltage control and contactor, you will need a control cable from the wire feeder to the machine. This limits you to the length of the control cable. They AINT cheap!I bought a 100' remote control, so I can use it for Stick or Mig, even tig if needed.I have no idea what you will be using it for, but I find being able to have 50 or 100' of + cable going to the feeder is fine.I have never used an LN-15. I have had one LN-25 for about 20 years and a few years ago, I bought a second one.DavidReal world weldin. When I grow up I want to be a tig weldor.
Reply:Thanks David, I will mostly be using it for FCAW, and I feel that your dead on about needing 100' of lead.....the control cables are far from cheap. I do want the option of GMAW if needed though.Yeah, yeah, I know you are a weldor too. But, are you a good one?
Reply:I just bought a "box" of NR211 1/16" flux core from Lincoln. It comes in 14 lb coils, 4 to a box. It was $156.00 for 56 lbs. It fits my LN-22. Good stuff. The contactor IN the machine should be great, but I got used to the electrode being hot, like I said I have had the LN-25 for 20+ years. For a lot of years all I had was an engine drive and LN-25. It worked for me.DavidReal world weldin. When I grow up I want to be a tig weldor.
Reply:You can only run 10lb spools with the LN-15, that is its ONLY limitatio in the "VS" model. Contol cable models are a hassle, though control cables are not expensive, 75' will run around $200As for remote control , just do that and run a remote off the 6 pin remote connector on your machine. Way cheaper, and you can run the remote for stick welding as well. We use the 14 pin as there is 20 amps sitting there, and run power out to the remote as well.Last edited by Cruizer; 02-23-2008 at 11:27 AM. |
