Last of the long distance runs for the season. This one went as far North as Kansas City. Four stops, and a lot of miles in between.Stops 1 & 2. Thousand pounds directly over the tongue, and about 5 or 600lbs in the snow plow.3rd stop. Dunno what this thing weighs. THE KING OF RANGE FEEDERS 3000lb feed capacityThe final stop, and some rearranging to make it all fit. At this point the coupler had to be adjusted to compensate for the ride height. More I use it, the handier it becomes. The return run was a real PITA. With the feeder, and the snowplow turned face forward, the wind resistance was absolutely horrible, like pulling a sail directly into the wind. Headwinds out of the South were running 25mph, gusting to 35mph. Ran some serious fuel thru the old 460cid on the return On the 800 mile trip the average was 8mpg, not bad, but not great. In the interim there's been a few short hops.At this point I've broken the 3000 mile mark with no problems. All types of load configurations, and weight distributions. I'm thinking that for a prototype it's proved pretty successful. Suppose a full measure would be somewhere around the 20,000 mile mark.I think the Oklahoma roads are the best test ground for impact loads. Never seen worse, except in Illinois once you're off the interstates. Kansas roads are very good, but give a good measure of tire wear etc.Hate to say it, but I've been pretty pleased with the Provider 225/75R15 trailer only tires. No real wear problems (that also takes into account good alignment on the build). I run them at near the max pressure of 65psi. I prefer 60psi for all around use, considering the empty miles. Empty miles kill suspensions on any trailer, beats them to death."Any day above ground is a good day"http://www.farmersamm.com/

Reply:8 MPG sounds pretty good to me, don't think I got much better with the 93 F 250 with the 460 engine.
