Hi all,I have had this 10 pound box of Lincoln welding rod for the past 10 years. It had no legible letters on it but I could make out Lincoln's logo on the can. The type of rod was unintelligible. Here are a few shots of one of them. Does anyone know what rod it is? One of he welding supply guys thinks its some type of hardfacing rod. It looks like a hollow tube with a crimped end.I would like to find out what it is.Thanks,Tony

Reply:Could be some Stoody hardfacing rod in a Lincoln can. Weld a bead with it then try to grind it. If it doesn't grind well its probably for hardfacing.

Reply:Sorry I haven't gotten back on this. I found a spec sheet on Lincoln's site for a product they call "wearshield ABR". This is a graphite coated tubular rod. It goes for around $5.50 a pound in 60 pound increments. I put it up for sale on craigslist for $20 just to move it as I have never been called on to apply hardfacing so I don't expect to do so anytime soon.About 15 years ago was given this can from a welding supply that was dumping a bunch of rod that had not identifiers like this one where the product info had worn off and was sitting in their warehouse.I wish I would have taken all the stuff they offered me. I didn't think of the idea of using or selling the stuff. It was several hundred pounds of various types of rod in cans and boxes. Oh well.....live and learn.Thanks for the help identifying it.Tony |
