cut off wheels anyone try theses

Reply:i dont use a die grinder for cutting. i use a 4 1/2" grinder with Sait cutoff wheels.bout all i do with a die grinder is prep/deburr with twist-loc sanding pads.tackleexperts.comwww.necessityjigs.comhttps://www.facebook.com/groups/mach...dingequipment/

Reply:The ad doesn't give many details, like the construction (if reinforced w/ fiberglass), the grit size or the rated maximum speed. I use discs similar to those for lots of things, e.g. for cutting off rivet heads or slotting screw heads; a die grinder gives more control for small work than an angle grinder would but each has its place.

Reply:I use cut off wheels a lot and I can tell you that I buy wheels that are sound. I have scars of 5 stitches 6" down from my left palm where a cut off wheel got thrown from me and went into my arm. 30 cents a piece sounds like a great price, but if they got damp, or are old, and are falling apart, you might loose really bad in the deal after the purchase.

Reply:I don't know about the ones on flea bay but any of the abrasives from HF are crap.  I took a chance on some of their 14" chop saw blades once and it made exactly 22 cuts through 1 1/4" 16ga square tube before the blade was worn out....  Their sand paper is equally as bad.We used to use a large number of the twist lock dicks (Norton) until the prices got crazy a few years back.  At close to a buck each even in bulk it's just money down the tube.  We went back to the angle grinders and flap wheels  Flap wheel lasts 10-20 times as long as a twist lock and I can buy them for 3 bucks each.I don't buy any consumables with the "metabo" name on it.  Prices are ridiculous and they don't last any longer.Buy the ones off ebay and give us a report!
Reply:I don't use air die grinders at home. I use 5" Norton wheels from home depot for my 4 1/2" grinder. The extra circumference cuts much faster. The less expensive wheels cut slower and turn to dust much faster, so they're actually MORE expensive and much more dangerous (how much does a trip to the ER cost?).Welding/Fab Pics: www.UtahWeld.com
Reply:I haven't used the 3/16 or 1/16 small cut offs from them, but I had to go to an industrial plumbing supply place here a couple of weeks ago to get some real heavy PVC for our air system and they had just started carrying metabo grinders, abrasives and grinding wheels.  I bought two flap wheels and a grinding disk just to try them but they werent cheap.  I think the flap wheels were 7 bucks but they are about the best I have used even better than the norton ones I think.  They have the built in mandrel so no need to mess around with the collets.  Nice quality for sure.  The grinding disks seem about the same as norton or dewalt...
