This past weekend I was welding a bit, took a break and came back. I flipped the switch, fan came on, went to weld and the wire feed motor did not feed wire. The drive wheel doesn't want to turn at all.I called a few local places and they told me that sometimes the PC board goes out and it is almost $300 to replace it. I pulled the electric motor to make sure it checked out and when I look at it one of the brushes had broken off. So I know that I need to get another set of brushes, Lincoln only sells the entire motor, $110. I then ran some tests on the wires feeding into the motor. I did not get any reading across the multi-meter, in volts, when I pulled the trigger. I did a continuity test and it rose to 1800 then once the trigger was pulled it slowly went down to 1160. This makes me think that something on the board it faulty. Not sure that I want to spend close to $400 to fix a 4 year old welder when I could get a new one for $475....thoughts???Can I pick up some cheap used parts somewhere???thanks in advance.
Reply:There is a company, can't recall the name but you should be able to find it pretty quickly with a search that rebuilds the boards. Cost about half of a new one. None are cheap.The difference between art and craft is the quality of the workmanship. I am an artist.
Reply:You want to check volts DC from the 2 wires going to the motor, not continuity.Can you not stuff the brush back into the brush holder?
Reply:Sorry to resurrect this thread. I contacted York Electronics in Kentucky, they looked at it, said that they fixed it but still nothing....called them and they refunded my money. So I am back to square one. With that PC board in I still get nothing coming from the board to the 12 VDC motor. I have tried testing the 12 VDC motor, its fine.There is a place locally that is selling a Clarke 130 en welder with cart for $349. Maybe I will just get that.....Thoughts |
