Reply:With the Dialarc welders what does it take to use them as a tig machine? How hard is it to hook up a pedal? Thanks Luke
Reply:Dunno about the pedal, but they all work scratch-start:http://weldingweb.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=38106
Reply:that one looks like it does not have the connectors for a pedal.Dynasty 200DXPassport plus w/ spoolmate 100victor 315c oxy/(act and prop)Miller digital elitemilwaukee power tools
Reply:You can download the manual from Miller if you get the serial.http://www.millerwelds.com/service/ownersmanuals.php
Reply:Nope - No hi-freq, no remote provisions, no gas/coolant provisions.Better pass except for use as a good ol' stick machine.Good Luck
Reply:We have thirty Idealarcs that run scratch-start TIG for our structural/pipe classes, and the graduates do quite well. No aluminum of course, but they do stainless and carbon steel quite nicely. Since the students don't have much or any time on a sophisticated TIG machine, they just weld and don't pay the additional difficulty any mind. There's many a pipe welder making serious money every day with a scratch start rig. Learn that way to start and you can work all-position, any distance from your power source, and get the job done.
Reply:Got ya Farmall, anyway, in reference to the welder offered for sale here, my point was that in today's market about the same money will purchase a more advanced TIG machine, for example maybe a DialArc-HF, or a 330, complete with aluminum capability and a liquid-cool system.  So for most buyers, per reply #2 and #4,  it'd be a question of why buy the rudimentary air-cooled steel-only capability, when about the same money will buy more refined liquid-cooled and ready-for-aluminum equipment.  Anyway, thanks for the tip and let's watch to see how long it stays listed.Good Luck-------------- Originally Posted by hotrodder_101With the Dialarc welders what does it take to use them as a tig machine? Reply:Why won't it do AL? On the machine it says it will do AC/DC.Luke
Reply:No HF capability means no Al. As to TIG units with AC/HF for the same money, they are less common for whatever reason in the SC/GA/NC region. (Maybe the sellers read welding forums!)  This is more the "land of cheap SA 200s" than the "land of cheap TIG machines".

Reply:"So should we start the disinformation campaign then?"Dis-what? We'd never lie.Clearly all such machines should be swapped for a tube of Crazy Glue in the interest of consumer protection.
