Hey all, I'm a valve technician/machinist/welder in our shop. Have been machining and doing valve repair for the past 9 years, and dabbled in welding here and there. The other day, I was welding up test flange bolt holes (they were deep and worn out from bolting/u bolting constantly) and my new boss (our company was recently acquired by a new company) came over and saw my welds, and he assumed our main welder did them. When he saw me doing the welding, he stopped me and asked why I wasn't the main welder guy. It surprised me, because I never knew I was too great at welding. He said "okay, we're gonna send you out to Texas to get certified then". You could imagine the ego boost that will give a guy! So, we use an old miller here at the shop, for tig welding. And an old Lincoln for arc. I'm looking into the everlast power i-tig 200, due to me being a broke single young man. Have any of you had much experience with it? I like that it has a 60% duty cycle on max amps... Compared to only 20-30% for the more expensive miller maxstar. Our main welder guy usually only has to tig small things, like worn/deep spots in the seats/wedges of valves, then we just grind it down a little and machine the surfaces to polish and fit. However this new company is having us weld flanges together... Big ones. The 20-30% duty cycle of the miller would just piss me off, having to take such long breaks constantly. Then again, the root pass, we're generally only running at maybe 75 amps. Anyway, hope to hear from you guys soon!!Thanks, Travy Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Reply:No no, I'm making a little shop in my garage** sorry I didn't clarify. And actually the company I work for, does not recognize certs that we get on our own. We have to get sent out by our company for certs. Kinda strange to me, seeing as it's all AWS...Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Reply:I'd like a welding machine in my garage, that can reproduce the same welds that I make at work Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Reply:I would go for it. I have the 210ext board went out sent me a new one works fine. I have the powerarc 140st that has made me a ton of money. Just took it to Oahu for a big structural job ran 1/8 7018 about 30lbs in a few days did great. I am not affiliated with them. I just started out on my own and everybody gave me crap for buying green but they have been good to me. I am getting the mts 251is this week and their 3 phase commercial tig machine next month. Those and my trailblazer with a spool gun and I am pretty set for very little dough. Got my TB for 800 . Anywho with the inveter tech going so fast I like the 5 year warranty then I can get the next cool thing. Hope this helps. Its a struggle out there do what you need to get going and goos luck!!
Reply:Haha I am just a hobbiest and I love my Everlast. Boy was I skeptical because honestly most off-shore brands are crap...if not all others. In this case though, Everlast looks to be a US company based in San Francisco. I think that is spades ahead of a lot of the items found online.
Reply:Thanks guys! Luckily I live real close to SF, so shipping would be no problem if I ever encounter issues! How do you like the foot pedal that everlast makes, alohacana? And just curious. How does the tig run on that 140st?Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Reply:honestly havent ever ran tig on the 140 lol. It just lives in my van for a beater work horse stick machine. The new pedals are fine. I really want one of the fancy wireless ones that the 9k dollar dynasty 280 kit comes with at our airgas. I love Tig but argon is so outrageous here its hard to even use it when not for a job. The only thing about the 140 is its a little cold on 110 I only run 3/32 6011 on 110 bc I like a hot looking bead and the 7018 on 110 looks kinda cold. I dont think it is cold but I want all my welds to look a certain way.
Reply:Definitely understand! I'm pretty excited to get to do projects at home, make some money on the side (hopefully enough to pay the machine and some bills!) I eventually want a lathe and mill in the garage too, then we can REALLY make some money!Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Reply:Yeah mill is my next big purchase after my next welder.
Reply:What are you planning on getting for your next welder?Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Reply:the everlast 315 commercial tig 3 phase only
Reply:That sounds like a fun one!Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Reply:Whereas I can't speak for the US distributors for Everlast - I can say I have been very impressed with the Canadian distributor, and have had two machines(160HF, and 185 ac/dc hf), and have not had a single issue. YMMV but so far so good.I think for the money, the 185 mirco is probably the best option. Have used it extensively for stick, and tig, and it really has been flawless.
Reply:Just ordered the power itig 200 last night from the everlast website I'm hoping that it ships from SF, because I'm only like 35 mins away from SF... Fast shipping is nice But I can't wait to play with it! However I need an argon tank, and a 220v 50a outlet first. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
