Today i was at my local tool supply outfit, i got some shots of some old machines they have... from what the guy said this tool supply business was in what was an old machine shop from the 20's, something like the current owners great grandfathers machine shop.. He said these machines were early 20's, i didnt get a shot of the belt drive in the ceiling, but i have to go back next week to pick up some taps i have on order, if i remember i'll take a pic of whats left of the belt system..  i had been in this place probably 100 times in the past and just noticed them buried under some stuff, i have noticed the belt system previously.. Reply:Three very cool machines... The first one looks to be a very small horizontal mill (really slick--never seen such a small one)The second is a variation of an old Camelback drill Never seen a saw quite like that one either...some sort of metal cutting power jigsaw ? Might be to cut slots in metal too.The overhead belt drive system is probably worth more than the tools to someone wanting to assemble that sort of shop. They're hard to find anymore. Thanks for the photos... interesting machines.Last edited by mudbugone; 08-13-2011 at 04:55 AM.
Reply:Third machine looks like a broaching machine, for cutting keyways in I.D.'sI once worked  in an old (1860's) shop where all machines were powered by overhead line shaft/leather belts. One electric motor powered everything including the elevator.Motor had been installed to replacewater power in the 40's or 50's.It was like working in a museum.Tool room had lathes, horz. mill, hugeplaner etc, all driven by line shaft.Miller a/c-d/c Thunderbolt XLMillermatic 180 Purox O/ASmith Littletorch O/AHobart Champion Elite
Reply:The first is a hand miller, the second is a camelback drill, the last is a Davis style keyseater.Good chance the little shop made gears (hand millers made short work at small gears).Matt
Reply:Third machine looks like a broaching machine, for cutting keyways in I.D.'sI think you are correct.. that explains the V on the platform which would hold a piece of round stock for that purpose.
Reply:We have machinery older that that where I work and it all still works!...zap!I am not completely insane..Some parts are missing Professional Driver on a closed course....Do not attempt.Just because I'm a  dumbass don't mean that you can be too.So DON'T try any of this **** l do at home.
Reply:Not old just clean them up the keysetter is just fine new would not be different . John
