I hate those "Oh Duh" moments

So I'm building a mobile base for my table saw and decided I was going to do it all Tig.  Its mostly 1 1/2 x 1 1/2 x 1/8 angle and some 1/8 plate. Things are going along great, got the frame all fitted and welded up, welds are starting to look consistent if not passable.  Last night I built the housings for the rear wheels (it will have fixed wheels in the back and full locking swivel casters on the front), it was getting late but I wanted to get them mounted because I knew I probably wouldn't be back to this project till after Memorial Weekend.  As I'm welding them on my welds go to crap, sometimes even having a hard time starting an arc, the welds are porous and I'm having to really lay down the amps to get any penetration.  The whole time I'm thinking what the h$ll, is the welder dying, did I use the wrong grinder and contaminate my tungstens, am I running out of Argon?Well, it finally hit me at work today what happened. I was in such a rush to "finish" I didn't prep the frame so I was trying to tig through the millscale....doh!!

Reply:If that's your best "Oh Duh" moment, you're a genius compared to me.  I can go on for a while here....Using a piece of 3/32 SS filler as my tungsten...Ground cable across my lap and not connected and the HF taking the shortest course...Leaving a piece of wire in my mig liner and not understanding why wire won't feed....The list goes on and on.
Reply:I'm in the bad habit of holding the tig filler rod in my mouth between welds when I need my left hand to set up the next part.   Seems like about once every 6 months or so I'll get the hot end to close to my lip and burn it.
Reply:went to reposition while tig welding and stuck the hot end of the filler right through the crotch of my jeans, fortunately I stopped before it got to the important bits.
Reply:I'm not the only one then! Or you have a long piece and you try to flip down your helmet. Reply:Frozen nut on a 5/8 bolt. Bolt in the vise, heated the nut red and spun it off with a wrench. Shut off the torch, shucked the gloves, grabbed the bolt barehanded. Cooked the threads right in thumb and finger. Boss lady thought the threads felt "unique". Reply:The other day I used some 308 stainless rod to weld some 6061 Aluminum... Couldn't for the life of me figure out why the rod wasn't taking to the puddle.... oh yeah I thought this rod felt a little too heavy...Last edited by TTnicksocal; 05-14-2014 at 07:27 PM.
