I have a customer that wants a driveway gate built that has a man gate within it. I know there was a thread on here a while back where somebody did this, but I am unable to find it.The gate is not going to have any pickets, the fill is all going to be with stained cedar boards. Here is a picture of the basic gate frame, shape.I am having a hard time figuring out where to brace this frame so that the door opening will remain square and the gate will have enough rigidity.Could anybody give me a few suggestions? Thanks,wRMiller TrailBlazer 301Miller 12rc feederMiller ShopmasterMiller 22a feederPlasmaCam CNC TableHypertherm 45 cutterDrills, saws, blast cabinets etc.

Reply:I talked to the customer and as it turns out, I do not need to have the bottom of the door frame open like the drawing shows, so this is no longer and issue.I'd delete the thread, but do not know how.wRMiller TrailBlazer 301Miller 12rc feederMiller ShopmasterMiller 22a feederPlasmaCam CNC TableHypertherm 45 cutterDrills, saws, blast cabinets etc.
Reply:Before you delete, may I say something. If what you mean by "do not need to have the bottom of the door frame open " means closing it up with, say tubing, you will create a tripping issue.I built one similar, but actually hinged the little gate off the end of the big gate. Put a drop rod at the end of the larger section, and a sliding bar similar to a latch bolt, that would hold the smaller gate in-line when the whole gate is opened. |
