I'm building a driveway gate using 1.5" (1/8" thick) mild steel square tubing for the frame and 3/4" (1/8" thick) mild steel square tubing for the pickets. The gate is 4' high by 9' long. My question is should I weld on all 4 sides of the pickets at each end (8 welds/picket) or can I get by just welding the pickets on 2 sides at each end (4 welds/picket)?

Reply:i think that would depend on whether or not, you want to keep water/moisture out of them
Reply:If you only weld two sides around the picket you will have issues with rust when the gate gets wet.
Reply:Yes, you need to weld on all 4 sides. Just think, you will be doing 6" of weld just to hold one measly little picket in. |
