So I've been tig welding for some time now, but am no expert. I just finished up a 304 sch10 1.25" turbo exhaust manifold and have a question about filler preferences. I did the majority of the manifold with .035" 347 filler. It was smooth, gave me good color, and the puddle responded well. Towards the end i ran out, and replaced my supply with .035" 308L filler. The 308L didn't respond as I wanted. The puddle seemed "loose".I couldn't keep a smooth consistent bead because it would wander off to the side, or backwards a bit. I could probably describe the puddle characteristics as 347 being like motor oil and 308L being like water.Has anyone else experienced what I am? I'd rather not pay for 347 to use on 304 but if I can't get the result I'm looking for with 308 ill have to pay up
Reply:are you sure it was 308L and not 308LSi? Did you purchase it yourself to know for sure? I ask because the added Si creates more puddle fluidity in case it was 308LSi. How much I don't know for sure, perhaps others can chime in, but it is one possibility. 1st on WeldingWeb to have a scrolling sig! Reply:Do you have any pics, I use 308 all the time and it wets out fine. Last edited by weldermike; 05-21-2014 at 02:33 PM.I hate being bi-polar it's awsomeMy Heroes Have Always Been Cowboys
Reply:Yeah I bought 5lbs and kept the tube it came in. It's just 308L. I thought most people used 308L and Mike your showing me results can be what I want. I can get some pics. Its not like the result is terrible, its just not nice and consistent. Seems to wander a bit. I may have to try a little less heat and see if that helps? |
