Lincoln AC 225 Parts

Alright here's what happened.  I was at a friends new farmstead waiting for them to show back up and a AC 225 welder was left there.  I spotted some 6011 rods and some other rod I couldn't find a designation for.  It burned the 6011 rod real well, and to my surprise I can actually stick weld! (I learned on wire and have been doing production welding for the last 3 years +)The other rod, was hard to strike an arc, when I did the arc would be lost shortly after I started running the bead.  So I tried feeding the rod as fast as I could to keep it going.  Well when I was going the machine was really running and shaking.  I lost the arc and went to turn the amps up some more to see if that would help (running at 120 btw) and the control was hard to turn and then snap.  The control turns pretty much freely, and nothing comes out of the leads.  So here's what I'm thinking is the amp control fried or something, but I wanted to know what you guys think and if I should try to find a lincoln dealer around here to find the parts for it.
Reply:If you open the covers, you'll see the windings off the transformer looped around the output studs, The hold down nuts for these usually back off the threads, and and tends to burn the winding off. Not too difficult to reinstall the winding, though you may have to replace the stud as well.
Reply:Another common problem is that the contacts will arc inside the machine, and the plastic piece jumps out of the hole that moves the rheostat.  I had one that was continually doing that and sounded just as what you describe.I'm a Lover, Fighter, Wild horse Rider, and a pretty good welding man......
