was realy impressed by the reviews posted on the fury 2 and was ready to buy one when the lightbulb went on. i have an old industrial abrasive chopsaw that wasn't being used.so with a pulley change to slow it down and a blade from the fury,it does a great job and has a good vice and 5 hp.the motor is 3-phase. i''ll have to modify the belt guard to fit the new pulley size. Reply:Great job.  I was thinking along those same lines and was wondering if a big enough rheostat could be used to slow down a regular chop saw?
Reply:if the rheostat did slow it enough, you'd have no power at all. i'm planning to wire in a vfd i have on the shelf to provide a little more speed control.miller thunderbolt 250vlincoln square wave tig 175 prolincoln idealarc mig sp250everlast tig 210EXTeverlast power plasma 50chicago electric (hf) 130 tig/90 arcchicago electric 90 amp flux wire3 sets oxy/acet

Reply:No on the rheostat.  Tried it.  You reduce the torque with the RPMs.  Blade hits the metal, and stops.Jack OlsenMy garage website
Reply:That Kalamazoo is a bitchen saw as an abrasive saw. Since yo have reduced the rpm and it cuts well as a dry saw you may consider reducing it a shade more and adding a coolant system and making it into a true cold saw. With a cold saw blade size isn't as restrictive and you could get a larger blade and have better cutting capacity. Then you would be the envy of all the kids on the block!

Reply:i used that kalamazoo chop saw in the shop i workd for wen i was a kid and thats my old clausing kondia powermill in the background ther.......i want both of those back ;c        thermal arc 252i  -  millermatic 350P -   miller XMT, cp300ts, 30a 22a feeders, buttload of other millers, handfull of lincolns, couple of esabs  -   Hypertherm 1250 G3

Reply:1900-1950 . thats why i still want to wire in my vfd to slow it to around 1500. right now ,there's an irratating blade whistle .miller thunderbolt 250vlincoln square wave tig 175 prolincoln idealarc mig sp250everlast tig 210EXTeverlast power plasma 50chicago electric (hf) 130 tig/90 arcchicago electric 90 amp flux wire3 sets oxy/acet
Reply:yeah, coldsaw would need to be much slower, my 9" blade spins around 50 rpm, larger blade may be even slower than that, but it really does cut fast enough that a power feed is not absolutely necessary & the cut is so clean that it's almost a milled finish... guess gear reduction is a big part of what makes a coldsaw what it is... I'm sure that even the carbide tipped dry blade is a big improvement over the chop saw though, looking good  miller 330a bp TIGmiller dynasty 200DX TIGmillermatic 185 MIGthermal dynamics cutmaster 101 plasma cuttersnap-on YA5550 plasma cutterhypertherm powermax 30 plasma cutterbaileigh CS225 cold sawetc....
Reply:Good old Kalazoo....I was thinking of doing the same thing, just need a good heavy Kalazoooooo....
Reply:yeah,it is heavy. and the photos dont show it well ,but there are double v-belts on it to make sure it can transfer a good part of the 5 hp to the blade.miller thunderbolt 250vlincoln square wave tig 175 prolincoln idealarc mig sp250everlast tig 210EXTeverlast power plasma 50chicago electric (hf) 130 tig/90 arcchicago electric 90 amp flux wire3 sets oxy/acet
Reply:Nothing more fun than taking an old piece sitting around and finding a good solid use for it.   Keep noodling it till it works better than the spendy new one... then ya' got  sumthin' kool you'll enjoy using every day.Lincoln Power MIG 215Lincoln WeldPak 3200HDLincon ProCut 25Lincoln WeldanPower 225 AC/DCIf all else fails... buy more tools
