what year is my red face with no code# or ser.#

just wonding if there were other ways to find out what year my redface was with no numbers.  thought maybe some parts on it might help such as make of carb. or something. I have read that they were made from 62-73.thanks jody
Reply:Lincoln went to a black face plate wel before '73.You'll have a hard time determining the year without a serial number. The code number will get you in the ballpark tho. It's stamped on the generator on the carb side.There were very few changes made in these machines in the 60's, you don't really need to know the year of manufacture to get replacement parts.JTMcC.
Reply:sounds good did not know about code number being on generator.  I really have not had any problems finding parts was just wondering.  What made tha red faces different?
Reply:A red face has a face plate with a red background. Before the redface machines Lincoln used a blackbackground, and after the redfaces they used the black background. That's it, no magic.The machines made in the 60's are generally considered very nice machines, but those made before are as well and a lot of them made after too.Bottom line is that almost all SA-200's can be tuned to weld very nice.The current 200D's have the same generator as the old models. Reply:A few details you could check to narrow down build era:Generator - Round or octagon?Drive belt - Wide or narrow?Charging system - Generator or alternator?Oil fill - Pipe or tube?Starter mount - Low or high?Magneto - Top bolt uses nut, vs threads into mag. -???- Not sure on this one.Each item listed with early style first - I believe.Good Luck
