So now that my xmt is fixed and burning rod just wondering what setting you guys who have these like I use a lot of 1/87018 and 1/8 6010 but do go up to 5/32 and run some 6011 6013 and 7014 and I have a tig setup. Coming in for it too I'm just not familiar with using the dig setting I'm used to having just a big crank dial and go I use a 354mpa at work but all I use it with is a xr-a feeder on Alu . So what settings do you like with what dig setting????
Reply:I still have not figured that arc force dial out yet. Don't seem to notice a difference on 1 or 10.For the 7018's,1/8" @ 120-140a3/32" @ 80-105aThe 6010's I don't run much but 1/8" @ 80-90 seemed to work good.Sent from my SPH-L710 using TapatalkLast edited by Chris T.; 05-31-2014 at 04:26 PM.TOO MANY TOOLS & NO MORE SPACE
Reply:I've never run an XMT. With my V350-Pro, and the PowerArc 300 I look at the arc force more like an inductance control. For open root welding with 6010 I run the arc force all the way up, +9.5 on the V350-Pro, and 10 on the PowerArc 300. For regular welding with 6010, like for a hot, fill, and cap pass I run +2 on the arc force. This makes it childs play to get the stack of dimes look. I do the same when running 7018, +2 on the arc force, gives a nice flowing puddle.Dont pay any attention to meIm just a hobbyist!CarlDynasty 300V350-Pro w/pulseSG Spool gun1937 IdealArc-300PowerArc 200ST3 SA-200sVantage 400
Reply:Thanks for the info yea first thing I did with it was grab a 1/8 6011 rod turned it 125amps and cranked the arc force to max and punch a hole through a pc of plate I could snuff out the arc no matter how hard I pushed freakin love this thing compared to my othe stick welders but the other welder are just a old miller buzz box and blue star so not really compareble to this one
Reply:I have been using an XMT 350 cc/cv on occasion oscars of late. All I run on it is 7018. I use the arc force like a hot start adjustment. With 1/8 7018 I run 110-125 amps with arc force at 4-5 setting. With 7018 I notice a large arc starting difference between 3-5 on the arc force dial.Last edited by snoeproe; 05-31-2014 at 06:36 PM.JasonLincoln Idealarc 250 stick/tigThermal Dynamics Cutmaster 52Miller Bobcat 250Torchmate CNC tableThermal Arc Hefty 2Ironworkers Local 720
Reply:I usally leave mine about 30-40 with 1-8 or bigger 7018. On 3-32 7018 I may go to 60 or so. For air-arc set it to 100 or max. When welding thinner metal or filling a gap turning down the dial will help by reducing the hotstart.Miller xmt304, Miller S22 p12, Miier Maxstar SD, Miller 252 w 30A, Miller super32p12, Lincoln Ranger 9, Thermal Arc 181I with spoolgun, Hypertherm 10000 ,Smith torches. Reply:I have used 1/8 inch 6011 and 6010 as low as 80 or 85 amps.Cool thing about the xmt304 is it can keep the arc going below whats typically useable to a given rod, really good for thinner stuff.Welding wise there isnt anything I didnt like about them.Whole machine wise they are kind of big and expensive.old Miller spectrum 625 Lincoln SP-135 T, CO2+0.025 wireMiller model 250 and WP-18V torchCraftsman 100amp AC/DC and WP-17V torchCentury 115-004 HF arc stabilizerHome made 4 transformer spot welderHome made alternator welder
Reply:Thanks for the info I was just practicing my overhead cwb with the xmt and am loving it got it to do some nice beads with 7018 1/8 120amps 40 on the arc force going to run it some more tomorrow and try it out on some pipe and see how I like it.
Reply:I run 3-4 with 7018. It definitely makes a big difference if you're trying to run a rod at a lower amps because it increases the amperage when the rods about to ground out and stick. If you forget to turn it down to 0 on 6010/11, you burn right through sh!t (which is exactly what I did yesterday). It becomes inductance when you change over to CV mode. I find 3-4 running solid wire and C25 to be the best as well. |
