I'm considering purchasing a horizontal mitering band saw, as some may remember from previous posts. It's going to replace an abrasive saw. I'm wondering what kind of mileage you get from a blade. I cut 50% mild steel, 40% stainless, and 10% aluminum. I expect to use a name brand bi-metal blade, maybe lenox or similar. The saw I'm leaning towards uses a 1" wide and 98" long blade. I looked at McMaster and MSC and found these bad boys cost from $50 to $75 each, which surprised me a bit. How long do they last? How many cuts would you guess you could make through square tube 2"x2"x.120 ss 304?Ian TannerKawasaki KX450 and many other fine tools

Reply:About the only thing I could add is to be careful about the location of your weld seam on cutting tubing. It tends to have hard spots and better to be located on the vertical rather than top or bottom. I have seen commericial operations where the saw operator goes on holidays and his replacement used three or four blades a day. To say the least the foreman was a happy camper when the regular operator came back. Read all the instructions including how to break in your new blade.
