Enclosed is a quick positioner to weld back up a undercarriage for one of my dozers. Attached Images
Reply:One of my customers does that all the time. They have a motorized Table and the weld head is on a feed screw. Can resurface all kinds of steel wheels. They use the sub arc welding process.
Reply:I am hoping that the bearings and the Duo-cone seals survive.  If the rubber O rings are cooked it is all over.  At the Cat dealer I worked at the internals were removed and serviced after welding.

Reply:As for as Water and Electricity dont work well - normally the case , but , i've spent far to many days doing underwater welding and the two do work together very well - but the comment is correct.   The seals dont have enough time to get too hot - that is the purpose of the water and it being constantly turned . If this was welded out of the water it would be scrap iron in no time.Last edited by Swamp rat; 10-24-2011 at 08:12 PM.
Reply:Could you tell me what type and size filler material you are using.I find your method of building up the rollers while being partially in water an excellent idea and innovation you are truly making do with whats available to you.Good work, william
Reply:I used Stoody  965 G  wire in .045 wire with C-25 gas.  The machine its on weights 60,000 lbs  and it has held up very well.
Reply:Nice set up, Swamp rat.Looking at your pics I'd swear that you're at a shop I used to sell to down in Little River, SC.He had an almost exact copy of your set up for building up rollers and drive wheels for tracked undercarriage equipment. The sandy soils down there would wear stuff out real fast, too, so he used it quite frequently.Brian LeonardAppalachian Ironworks L.L.C.434 Long Branch Rd, Marshall, NC 28753828 649 9966828 702 [email protected]
Reply:I know what you mean about wearing them out quick , seems like things dont last as long anymore.
