I am really new to welding, just got my first welder and am starting to get a feel for it but I have a question(possibly a very dumb one) on technique. Is there any reason not to weld front to back/back to front instead of traveling left to right/right to left if conditions allow? I seem to get better results setting the joint up to where it runs almost perpendicular to my body and travel towards my body. Is that a "no no"? On a separate note, I have about an hour of time on my Lincoln 210MP and really like it so far.
Reply:When you get into building things. You have to be able to weld in all directions. Sometimes its as simple as changing directions to counter arc blow in a corner.Dont pay any attention to meIm just a hobbyist!CarlDynasty 300V350-Pro w/pulseSG Spool gun1937 IdealArc-300PowerArc 200ST3 SA-200sVantage 400
Reply:I suggest getting comfortable with both pushing and pulling the puddle. I find I have to do both fairly often due to space limitations or the shape of the part.My "collection":Homemade Stick WelderVictor O/A TorchAC 225Ideal Arc 250HF 90 Amp Flux CoreHF Mig 170Solar 2020 Plasma CutterPower i-Mig 140EHarris O/A torchHF Dual Mig 131140STAlpha Tig 200x
Reply:Notice as both said, get comfortable pushing or pulling the puddle. This pretty much indicates welding in all directions. Truthfully as I type, think about visual preference in certain fit-ups, I would have problems seeing past the nozzle or behind the nozzle to follow the puddle. Which is why most recommend left to right or right to left. |
