Been thinking of using silicon bronze Mig Wire to give some added colorabyss thoughts on this, advice, experience

Reply:I wouldn't bother, seems like a waste of money for little return. If you want color for a particular thing, brazing gives a little more bang for the buck.

Reply:My brother makes coat hangers and yard tool racks out of Horseshoes all the time. He just stick welds them as they are Black spray painted anyways.

Reply:Sorry, maybe it's because your question sort of answers itself. Sure you can use brazing etc to join the shoes. There aren't a lot of guys all that familiar with silicon bronze Mig on average. I know Denny used to use it a lot on his vehicle restorations and a few other car guys have talked about it, but it's probably not cost effective for just shoes if you aren't planing to do a lot.Any time you do something like this, you are calling attention to the joint. The real question is how the item is set up and if that is what you really want to do. Many horse shoe projects the idea is to minimize the welds, not accentuate them. Take a look at Dhem's project thread and look how he uses tig brazing. The joints become decoration on the project and accent it. Most of the places I'd see welds on most horse shoe projects I don't think would add a lot of decoration. In fact they might be distracting.I go thru a lot of the same thought processes when I do riveted or peened over mortise and tenon joints when I do forge projects. Do I want these to show and accent the project, or do I want them to be invisible? If I want them to be invisible, I need to counter sink the holes and peen the material just above flush, so I can file to match or texture with the hammer to blend. If I want them to show, I need them to make sense and add to the piece. I hope this makes sense..No government ever voluntarily reduces itself in size.
