Have a positive experience to pass on: I was having a minor problem with my Lincoln 180C and contacted Lincoln by email describing the issue (porosity due to lack of gas flow). I got an email back from them within an hour with some suggestions, and a 1-888 helpline number to call if I needed more assistance. I called the line and was helped by a guy who, within a few minutes, diagnosed what he thought was happening and told me what I could do to address it, which was to replace the gun liner and change to drive guide. I had the parts from my local supplier that afternoon, with the gun working as soon as I made the repairs.Best and quickest customer service that I have ever got ANYWHERE with a phone call. Thank you Lincoln.
Reply:I have emailed them to ask questions, also.  I always get a reply within a few hours. Best thing is the reply is specific to my question(s) and not a cookbook, vague and non-helpful and even more confusing.  They are direct and quick!  How you get treated AFTER the sale is very important to customer confidence and repeat business.
Reply:On two different occasions recently I e-mailed them right at my bedtime here on the left coast and my answer was there when I got up in the morning. Not bad at all for me. Overnight solutions.
Reply:Very good company to deal with.   I bought a 180 Welder and the gas gauge was broken.  Called them up, they sent a new one, and didn't even want the old one back.  No questions asked...
Reply:I have had quite a few positive experiences dealing with the Lincoln people over email; both straight to the main office and also to the local rep.   I can't hear well enough to use the phone, so phone numbers are useless to me.   I will say, I was always answered promptly, to the point, and accurately.   In fact, the first occasion we communicated, subject was a couple large engine drives I was buying, they volunteered there was a factory update lacking on both machines, if I delivered them to a factory-authorized service shop, they would pay for it.  I did so, and they did.Last year, a job came up, excavator turntable .....   Critical, and needed to be done fast.   Lincoln rep showed up the next morning,,,,,,   looked everything over,,,,,,,   the wire I wanted, vacuum packed in foil, airtight, delivered TO ME, the next morning.  Billed thru the LWS, of course, all the lws did was process the paperwork.  But still, service, CORRECT service, and FAST service, cut thru the BS,,,,,   I have no complaints.Last edited by mark8310; 02-07-2009 at 05:59 PM.
Reply:I have called Lincoln with questions on new machines twice.  Both times I got an answer.  One time it took a few people to talk to, but in the end, I found out the "problem" I was having was not a problem, but a feature of the machine that was not in the owners manual.  (gouge mode).David Real world weldin.  When I grow up I want to be a tig weldor.
Reply:Dave, I am dying to know,, what model??   a casual comment made by one Lincoln rep to me , with a smile, was that some of the newer wire feed machines are set up to gouge when the dial is maxed out.  The reasoning was, what else would you max a wire feed power source for but to gouge with, so they modified the slope at the top end.
Reply:V350 pro.   It would go nutz when I turned the arc force from 9 to 10 on stick.   It would also go from 60 ocv to 70.  It IS gouge mode.  It has one other "hidden" feature too.David Real world weldin.  When I grow up I want to be a tig weldor.

Reply:Lincoln wire IS good.  Its about all I use.  Another problem I had was my V350 Mig welding would not hold the voltage you set it at under 17 volts. It reads out actual volts and amps for 5 seconds after you stop welding.    Set it on 10 volts, run a bead and it would say it was running at 16.It goes into "power mode" and adjusts its self.  It works.... That was the other thing not in the instructions.  Above 17 volts you get what you set. After talking to a bunch of people, I was told it goes into power mode and adjusts its self to the arc.It does. With the advanced panel it has a "power mode" for mig welding which reads out in KW.   (V X A)  It adjusts how much of each.  David Real world weldin.  When I grow up I want to be a tig weldor.
Reply:Our Miller Shopmate 300 does the same sort of thing on the "self adjusting".When I first started using it I thought something was wrong because the after weld display did not match my settings. I don't know if it has a cutoff at 17 or not, but it sure welds nice.
