i just recently got a hold of a lincoln tig 131 and have been using welding for a while.  but since i'm only using it as a tig, i haven't been changing anything but the amperage.  i was however thinking that it's a bit silly not knowing what the controls do, if i have to do something else later down the line.i don't find a manual for the machine, so i'm just going to ask the silly question, what does each knob do?1) the ampers2) ?3)?4)?5) for the tig cable6) ?7) plus for stick welding8) minus
Reply:Don't look like a Lincoln to me???Got more info like model number serial number???
Reply:by the looks of the pics I have seen it looks like a Lincoln Norweld tig.  Which I am not real familiar with.  just seen pics of them from time to time.  However just looking at the pic, I would think that 3 is the tig/stick switch, and 6 is to plug up an amptrol.  Not sure about the others.I'm a Lover, Fighter, Wild horse Rider, and a pretty good welding man......
Reply:2 looks like down slope or post flow.I'm with hammack on #34  looks like local/remoteHammack again on #6.  Is it a 6 pin socket?DavidReal world weldin.  When I grow up I want to be a tig weldor.
Reply:David, that number 6 shows a threaded dust cover. Just unscrew it and count the pin sockets inside. What ever socket that is, there should be a plug to fill it! City of L.A. Reply:ok.  so now i have1) the ampers2) post flow (is that how long the gas is flowing after the arc is off?  when would i like to change that?)3) tig/stick switch.  but why are there 3 settings?4) local or remote5) the tig cable6) most likely the plug for the remote7) + (or ground for stick)8) - (or ground for tig, and plus for stick)
Reply:I am not sure on #2.  could be preflow now that I think of it.  Post flow is usually longer.  Tanglediver, I tried to unscrew the cap, but my fingers are too fat.David Real world weldin.  When I grow up I want to be a tig weldor.
Reply:under the cap is a 4 pin female plug.  most likely for a remote.what do i gain by having a remote?  and where can i get one?

Reply:Too bad you did not show an overall photo of the machine. It was a UNI-NOR (blue white Uninor logo) machine made in Oslo Norway, Very simular to a Maxstar 131 &151 Miller series. Then It was Sold or bought by Lincoln and sold as a NC 131 (red with white NC131 Logo). it could be switched from 110 to 220 by changing some wires on the back of the machine.i do not know if Lincoln retained that feature.I had two of them at one time. They had some problems and when i needed help The company in Norway actually sent me a wiring diagram with the values of the components listed. They were distributed out of New Jersey i think in the USA.I will make another post and explain the controls.Last edited by Donald Branscom; 09-18-2008 at 10:10 AM.AWS certified welding inspectorAWS certified welder

Reply:hi guys sorry to bring this thread up but i have one of these welder and have a problem with it i cant seem to find any info on the web for it i have looked on lincolns site but cant seem to download anything if anyone has anything i would be very grateful cheers
Reply:kristfin,Did you ever figure out more on this welder? I have the exact same one except it is a Norweld TIG 130. Check teh photo. It looks 100% identical to yours. I'm a newbie to tig welding and I've been using it as a scratch start tig with the controls set to stick but would like to use it as an actual tig. How do you have everything connected? Reply:Anything?  I'd really like to know what type of tig torch you use and how it's connected because right now I just have mine going straight to the negative arc terminal with the control set on stick and teh gas bottle connected directly to the torch. I can't get it to work on the tig setting. I have to turn the gas on then scratch start it. I know Norweld was bought by lincoln, so if I can get a manual for the model you have it should be the same as mine. looks like lincoln just painted it red and put their name on it.Last edited by joeboob; 02-27-2009 at 02:40 PM.
