I'm trying to merge a 2" pipe to a larger 3" exhaust pipe at ~30-45 degree angle and was wondering if anyone has used the 2" harborfreight tubenotcher with a 3 inch holesaw. Has anyone tried extending the shaft holder with a shim and bracket that moves the shaft to the right? http://www.harborfreight.com/pipe-tu...her-42324.html
Reply:Return the HF notched and buy the one from Woodward Fab. It will handle up to 3" tubing and you'll save time and trouble, with having a tool built for what you need.
Reply:Hi Jay, I'm on a tight budget, hence my question. Plus, my Harbor Freight notcher is past the return date :P. If I were to pay $200 for a pipe notcher, I'd want it to handle up to 4" hole saws. This is just a one-off job and I'm trying to make the cut as clean as possible to make the tig welding also clean and neat.
Reply:Perhaps you could get somebody else to notch it for you. I think if you move the shaft out further then you will get more vibration/play. The notcher base metal is already thin and you will be adding leverage by moving it 3 battery(1inverted) widths away. There are also online template programs that might work, so you could do it by hand. It would probably not take longer than mod-ing that notcher.
Reply:The shop that I would like to do this is fully busy, so might have to figure this out after all. I'm just curious, does anyone know what the cheapest Pipe notcher is that will handle a 4 inch diameter hole-saw?
Reply:My lenox hole saw is either warped or something else is becauae it's not turning straight on the shaft. I've searched online but could not find any pipe notchers thar handle up to 4" hole saws. Does anyone know of any good bang/buck setups that work well?
Reply:Since your on a tight budget and what your looking for doesn't exist your going to have to do it by hand. Go to the link below and enter your info and then print out your templet.metalgeek.com/static/cope.pcgi |
