Reply:what do you call the cheaper stuff? if you are talking about the 4043 wire, the difference is strength. the 4043 wire is recomended for most aluminum welding where strength is not vital. the 5356 wire is harder to run and needs to be used in applications such as welding a truckbed or boat.

Reply:Joker,Are you wondering about it before you use it, or are you wondering about it because you have used it and are having problems or difficulties or differences?You do have to change the operating parameters a bit compared to 4043 wire, because of the difference in electrical conductivity between 5356 and 4043.  That's for GMAW.  It's about 15-20% WFS difference between the two alloys to get the same amps out (faster for 5356 and slower for 4043).GTAW you just mash the pedal until you get the puddle and then you dab and repeat.    The best laid schemes ... Reply:I haven't bought it yet. It is more expensive than the off-brand, but the offbrand isn't CHEAP either.My machine won't run those little 1 or 2lb spools. So I have to buy a 16 or 20lb spool. So we are talking about 100bucks. I don't want to spend that much on an offbrand only to find out I should have ponied up for the SuperGlaze.My machine (PowerMig 350MP) has preset programs for different wires. I can fine tune it from there if I want, but it should be pretty much good to go without much fuss. I asked because I do notice a difference between the Lincoln L-56 wire and the off-brands I have tried for steel mig welding. Sorry guys, I will try to be less vague when I ask my next question. That was stupid of me.
