what happens when they build a robot that can be programed to do anything you want it to20 years from now are there going to be any menial tasks done be hummens the auto builders devoleped the first welding robots that i ever saw that were the first in praticethe afordable plasma cutter cnc machine is the next step to people not having any work the welbot isn't that far behindi am not saying good or bad but consider the thought 20 years from nowmy wife already wants a madebot
Reply:weldbots i don't want to discuss union or non union this will affect everyone in the tradeeven in china
Reply:Study computer programming and keep your hands clean Plus, no robot will ever be able to weld everything - there will always be jobs that require a human.Heck, they can't even program a robot to do simple things - like hit a curve ball thrown by a human Dave J.Beware of false knowledge; it is more dangerous than ignorance. ~George Bernard Shaw~ Syncro 350Invertec v250-sThermal Arc 161 and 300MM210DialarcTried being normal once, didn't take....I think it was a Tuesday.

Reply:First and foremost, a developer of "weldbots" needs to know how to weld.  Or at least what is needed to effect a weld.  My young one is a machinist and a welder, though admittedly not with much experience.  He can weld pretty darned well and do some CNC machine programming in G-code or Mazatrol.  Better yet, he has a hard-headed skeptical attitude and the ability to figure out things himself.  He already knows the mistakes made by such prominent businessmen as Hitler and Joe Stalin. (Job training.)As far as programming, well, I have a lot of experience with programmers.  "Anything you want it to do" could be anything you didn't expect.  You have to learn how to talk to them, converse and beat them into submission to get anything approaching reality in the physical world.  Cyberspace is their domain.

Reply:Small business could not afford that type of equipment, so the smaller "specialized production shops" would probably still survive, but hourly rate would probably knock everyone out of the box. So back to the square 1. Who knows what the future will bring, my dad is only 70 and cannot believe how this world has evolved since he was a boy. People buying water still has him baffled. To live longer pffft! Todays stress will kill you quicker than un purified water will. And not to change the subject, but did anyone besides me ever wonder how water became more valuable than gas. Stop in a gas station and buy 8 16oz bottles of water for a family trip. Guarantee you bitch about the price of gas first. This whole world is just fcked up. Nobody listens, and to me it's like one big fcked up planned failure. I'm a dumb azz fcking welder, and if I could figure shlt out, the so called geniouses running this shlthole could have done it a long time ago. Planned failure.I hate being bi-polar it's awsomeMy Heroes Have Always Been Cowboys

Reply:If they make a machine smart enough to weld, it would be too smart to do some of the jobs that I have had to do.Originally Posted by weldermikeNope! I wouldn't. But in my mind I never met another man that I would rather be. Yet I call myself a azzhole all the time so go figure. My better half tells me I'm smart in different ways. I think that's a polite way of saying I'm stupid to be honest, but the world needs grunts and that's what I was built and designed to do. Not bad for a self taught welder who does pretty dam good to provide for us both. Best welding advise I can give is, dedication and time will win every time. We are all born equal, where you find yourself is up to the person. We're all individuals, and what makes you happy is just that. Alrighty then, I need a beer and gotta take a piss and feed my dog. Reply:Hi buck 2or 3 wears I find a further job concept. Weld shop with a seldbod. In the middle of the shop was a big welding table and on the selling a robot thad whas cabible to reach to eny point. The ''welder'' thaw on the table the opject thad need to weld. The robot with vision recognition system find the edge off the part. The welder select what is needed to weld and run the machine. If the future of welding is something like this, probably will be the best thing.
Reply:come on we are raising a new generation that can't read a road map (and a lot of other people of all ages) that will blindly follow there GPS into a lake now they make a car that puts on the brake for you how long before laseyness lets the car do ityou don't really have to pay that close of attention
Reply:You arguments continue to hold no weight. My sons both are learning to weld and started when they were 11.They both turn wrenches in the shop, pound nails, and run power toolsSome people are raising lazy, non thinking idiots - I am not. When they talk of developing technology, they plan to be inventing, designing, running, and/or repairing tech."Lead, follow, or get out of the way."Technology will continue to grow - grow with it or get left behind whining in the dust.Dave J.Beware of false knowledge; it is more dangerous than ignorance. ~George Bernard Shaw~ Syncro 350Invertec v250-sThermal Arc 161 and 300MM210DialarcTried being normal once, didn't take....I think it was a Tuesday.
Reply:Any good trade will be around long into the future. Many robotic welding systems are already being used, but it makes no sense to pay for one, bring it out, spend the setup time, to do one unique weld after another. Much cheaper to have a welder come out and weld it.  Working on curving, undulating pipelines, working on structures with seemingly similar welds, etc seems like robotic could do it, but the fit up is slightly different on every weld, so the robot would have to be reset to adjust for it. By that time the man is already done. Also, 20 years is not that long a time. Changes? Sure, but not a lot of real life changing changes happen in 20 years. My grandmother rode in a covered wagon, and has seen many changes in her life. Very interesting woman to discuss change with. Most of those changes take place much more slowly. The internet and computer will change a lot, but people don't adapt that quickly. They still use and break things made out of metal that need to be custom made and repaired.  There is also a very healthy market for hand made, forged, welded items, as well as having metal things modified. I will be employed for a very long time doing what I do!

Reply:Two of my three sons can weld ,run machines do carpentry, roofing ,one is a chef the other is an engineering tec. for a large company. In fact the one who is now a chef  , was a rodbuster for the summer on a sewer job .until they found out he was only 16. My oldest son emailed me today ,Wants a welder and torches so he can be a welder .I have an old Lenco welding trainer (small tv screen ,stick, mig ,an tig hand pieces and a welding helmet with bacon frying sound effects )Maybe I find that and see how long his intrest  lasts.
