Don't want to but my POS Jet has kicked the bucket again and back in the shop and its time to replace it. So its back being rebuilt...again, but I am shopping.In a pressured from wife for garage space I sold my Kalamazoo years ago, I fixed that problem but now I need a new machine. ( one of lifes regrets and a stupid moment on my part ). But that leaves me.Choices, choices choices, on a budget. 10K is out not going to happen right now, I have been hunting the used market for anything within 250-300 miles for months....zip.So that brings me to a new machine. Its not going to be Jet anything, I have two Jet machines and I don't like either one of them, which culls out the imports pretty much as they are all the same. I want a 1" blade ( min), decent vice, good bearings, and decent service.Names on my list are short right now, Ellis and I am sure I can afford any of the Wellsaw line. Any suggestions out there? Or am I just better off buying a used machine and paying the freight?
Reply:If you cut miters, try and get a saw with a swivel head. We have a wellsaw swivel and it's a nice machine.

Reply:w.f. wells is one of the best saws I have ever seen or used. And absolutely the best customer support of any company in any field I have ever dealt with. They do come up used once in awhile and the company fully supports the one I own which left their factory in 1971.

Reply:I have a Wells at work, very good machine. Its been abused for many years and still works fine. I have a Kalamazoo that is a good machine also. I see more used Kalamazoos than Wells

Reply:Nice machine a little big it would eat up too much of my shopspace, and Definately out of my price range.Actually I looked through Doall's lineup and the smallest machine is bigger than I am looking for.I guess if I could afford that saw I would throw up a bulding around it and not worry about it.

Reply:I just got a 1600 Ellis band saw at an auction for $550. It's a few years old, but basically a new machine. The owner passed away and it had sat for several years before the auction about a month ago. They retail close to $2500, So I'm not too disapointed with my buy. Reply:I was researching and fence sitting for a few days and missed something I might regret. I saw a Ellis 1600 on Ebay for 20% discount at $2050 new with free delivery. I got a feeling I might regret that in the end I am still not decided bewteen the ellis and the Wellsaw.My local rep who I have delt with for years is pumping a saber, I am 50/50 on this Tiawan, I worked ona 10K version of the same brand it was OK, there in lies my issue. 10K and OK at brand new, it had little issues that bugged me,. I won't spend 10K, 2-3 is more like it, I have linited shop space so about 60" lenght is it, and life really sucks with my bandsaw down. No good news on my old Jet, next week at earliest. Mom told me today just replace it ( rare indeed that I get an agreement on purchasing a high dollar tool). Next week should be better, expecting my new Jancy slugger 14 inch, and it won't replace the bandsaw but it will give me cut capabilty again. The week wasn't a total loss, brought some back burner projects forward, got a lot of lathe work caught up, and rounded the corner on a machinery upgrade/repair.
