Hey folks..i have been gettin some side work repairing and welding in car and truck panel replacements and exhuast work..etc and when especialy welding panels on vehicles 90% of the time i have to go to their place to weld them since the vehicle is tore down for a resto or repair...I have a Lincoln 180 that works nice for that type of work using .024 and even .035 on truck bumper repairs and such.I usualy use my 90' 12 gauge extension cord i made up and it works great, but, some people may not have a 220 outlet besides their dryer plug so i am always having to buy a dryer cord and put the 6-50 on the end for an adapter.I want to run the 180 off my Lincoln Ranger 225 and that'll make things much easier to just pull my ranger with me for a power source when needed. Here is a few pics of the Plug in on the Ranger and the end on the 180.I am assuming i just need to buy a 3 prong plug to plug into the ranger receptacle for the single phase 220v i need..am i correct? The ranger has a 4 prong but i was told the bottom slot is just an extra ground for something and i could just use the top 3 for a single phase 220v?...If it will work, what is the that pug end number i need to be searching for so i can make an adapter?Lincoln Ranger 8 225Lincoln 180 ProMigMiller Maxstar 200DXInternational Ironworkers Local 70930+ years and counting
Reply:You need  14-50p to fit the Ranger.  The bottom slot is a neutral, which your mig machine doesn't use.       All you need to do is run to the hardware store and buy the parts to make an adapter to 6-50r for the 180.  When wiring the 14-50 plug, disregard the neutral prong.

Reply:No problem mate.I didn't know you needs that long of one.Sounds like a good deal for you.John
Reply:John if you get one of those cords let us know how it works out. I can't buy even the cheap ends and put 1 together for that price. Besides you have molded ends instead of crappy ends to constantly give problems.

Reply:Get a 14-50p to 6-50r that is what ever length you can get then get additional feet of 6-50p to 6-50r as needed. Then you can plug you 180 into shop power from far away too.old Miller spectrum 625 Lincoln SP-135 T, CO2+0.025 wireMiller model 250 and WP-18V torchCraftsman 100amp AC/DC and WP-17V torchCentury 115-004 HF arc stabilizerHome made 4 transformer spot welderHome made alternator welder
Reply:I've been using crappy ends on my 90' cord with no problems what so ever for well over 5 years with the Lincoln 180 so far...lol...Last edited by FabCrazyGuy; 07-01-2014 at 11:25 PM.Lincoln Ranger 8 225Lincoln 180 ProMigMiller Maxstar 200DXInternational Ironworkers Local 70930+ years and counting

Reply:Originally Posted by FabCrazyGuyMy 90' foot cord already works for the shop,i was going to just make a short adapter for it but since i have plenty of cord i'll make about a 70' or so extension to go directly from the Ranger to the MIG,that way i'll have plenty to reach from running gas engined Ranger outside for a power supply to inside a shop or garage when i need it
Reply:Miller sells a nice neat little patch cord to go from 4 pin to 3pin. Its around 50 bucks but has a compact molded plug and receptacle. No clunky boxes or screws falling out. each of my Trailblazers has one hanging off it for a plaz cutter or dynasty if needed.
