I have a cigweld 255 engine drive welder and on the front panel there are 2 welding outlets, one for stick/tig and one for mig. I have a Lincoln ln-25 wirefeeder and have a few questions about the CV power on my machine. When I flick the toggle switch on the front panel from stick/tig to mig the machine idles up to max rpm's and doesn't idle down.I currently have the wirefeeder plugged into the mig outlet but I leave the toggle switch in the stick position so the machine idels up and down normally. My question is, is the mig outlet on my machine producing CV power constantly? My thoughts were that the mig switch was for when you were running a 115 volt wirefeeder and the machine idled up to keep the volts for the wirefeeder constant whilst welding. My ln-25 is set to CV and seems to weld perfectly so I'm a bit confused at present.
Reply:Most engine drives run at high idle when in CV or atleast all I have owned.
Reply:My bobcat does the same thing as soon as I turn my feeder on. I think the meters on the feeder must have just enough draw to make the engine idle up
Reply:My Commander only idles up when I pull the trigger on the squirt gun."Where's Stick man????????" - 7A749"SHHHHHH!! I sent him over to snag that MIC-4 while tbone wasn't looking!" - duaneb55"I have bought a few of Tbone's things unlike Stick-Man who helps himself" - TozziWelding"Stick-man"
Reply:Most except the really large engine drives do that.Vantage 500's LN-25's, VI-400's, cobramatics, Miller migs, synch 350 LX, Powcon inverters, XMT's, 250 Ton Acurrpress 12' brake, 1/4" 10' Atlantic shear,Koikie plasma table W/ esab plasmas. marvel & hyd-mech saws, pirrana & metal muncher punches.
Reply:I've seen owners manuals that tell you to kick the idle up when MIG welding. Helps prevent cold starts & stubbing especially at higher wire feed speeds. Perhaps the machine is designed with that in mind???
Reply:the welding machine is sensing the ground signal lead and the motor circuit that drives the wire, even if the trigger is not pulled, there is a slight load from the circuit, that trips the idle into being hot.face all times with a positive mental attitude, then and only then will you have done your best.
Reply:My trailblazer goes to high rpm when I attach my ground on my suitcase but then it idles back down a minute later and only kick to high when I pull the trigger.
Reply:I believe when you have the LN-25 set to CV it overrides the engine drive controls.Ed Conleyhttp://www.screamingbroccoli.com/MM252MM211 (Sold)Passport Plus & Spool gunLincoln SP135 Plus- (Gone to a good home)Klutch 120v Plasma cutterSO 2020 benderBeer in the fridge
Reply:Is there any downside to mig welding in cc? To be honest I didn't notice any difference between the two
Reply:i know the vantages have a switch where you set the electrode polarity of your feeder so it will idle down. If you have the wrong polarity on the switch it will not idle downVantage 500's LN-25's, VI-400's, cobramatics, Miller migs, synch 350 LX, Powcon inverters, XMT's, 250 Ton Acurrpress 12' brake, 1/4" 10' Atlantic shear,Koikie plasma table W/ esab plasmas. marvel & hyd-mech saws, pirrana & metal muncher punches.
